PDF not opening correctly in Illustrator CS5
Hi
I have been sent a PDF file created with inDesign which opens fine in Adobe Reader, but when I open it in Illy CS5 the background gradient is not there! Anyone got any ideas why this might be?

Sounds like whoever created the PDF with InDesign has used a filter which Illustrator cannot read. I would suggest throwing the artwork back at the client to do the amendments then supplying you with a print ready file.

Hi John,
Not sure this will work -but maybe worth a try – instead of opening file direct, open new blank window and use ‘place’ command instead.

Thanks for the replies. I asked for an eps copy and it opened fine. Strange thing though, these are the same files I was sent for a job last year with just a change of date and a couple of names, and they opened fine last time as a PDF, but that was on Illy CS3. Anyhoo, all sorted.
