  • PC600 – Banding with red spot colour

    I have an unusual problem.

My PC600 is missing a line of print when I print using spot colour red.

The effect is exaclty the same as when the head has blown and at first I thought that the head had packed in, but then discovered that other spot colours and process colour is printing perfectly.

These are new replacement ribbons which I just received today.

I tried using a second spot red ribbon but the problem persists. Only red is affected this way which I find strange. Has anyone experienced this and are there any suggestions as to what may be causing this. 😕

Were they both new ribbons you tried that had the problem ? could be a dodgy batch maybe ? I had similar problems doing spot gold, where the other colour would print fine, but the gold wouldnt on either edge of the ribbon – only happened on some of the ribbons I got with the machine and not others !

Could just be the Roland is a piece of carp :lol1:

    I think you’re right Mike.

The problem is at the very edge of each pass of the print head (not in a random position inboard which is what I would expect to be happening if the head was at fault) this implies to me that the ribbon is the cause as it is not laying down print at its very edge.

Perhaps I could get around this by reducing the pitch? (in other words more overlap at each pass of the print head).

Reducing the pitch may help, but then wont you get much bigger overlaps on the other colours ? Possibly just try another couple of ribbons and maybe they’ll be from a different batch ?

I know the PC machines are handy, but it does annoy me that Roland released a machine onto the market that has so many problems that should have been sorted. My PC seems to have a mind of its own sometimes 👿

every now & then this happens look at the cart and see if it is not twisted ie not put together square. also wind the cart back a bit to see some of the usage might give you a clue as to whots happening.

    Hi RightSigns
Did you actualy buy from Print One? If so Did you buy RED, Scarlet or Deep Red ? Some PC600 don’t like our RED but the other shades of Red are fine. Oddly enough it’s the reverse for PC60. The RED seems to be a bit ‘THIN’ for PC600 or something. I can’t trace you as a client under the name RignSigns. Or is the problem with other ribbons? If they are from here – we’ll replace with ribbons that are OK immediately.
    Regards Dave

Thanks Dave – I called your office yesterday and they sent out a new set of ribbons which arrived this morning and are working perfectly.

    Excellent Service.

I even got another bag of sweets out of the deal :lol1:
