  • PC60 New Head required – where from?

Posted by Barrie Shaw on 1 March 2007 at 11:08

    Hi
Just phoned Roland for a new head to be fitted,
answer – sorry we have discontinued the PC60 & parts for it,
me – I’ve got a voucher from Roland to cover head cost what do I do now?
answer – I’ll try & source one for you in that case!
coming back to me later today I hope!
otherwise does anybody know where I can get one & fitting, someone mentioned Kentech, where are they? whats this fitting manual? is it easy to fit a head yourself, that’s if you can get one of course! any suggestions? looks like I’m looking for a new printer cutter any suggestions? whats the Versa Camm like? how much are the Ink refills / running costs? etc. any advice would help!!!!!

    thanks
    Baz

    Hi Chris,

I would like to use the PM msg, but it is disable for me. I have sent a email to see if I can have it turn on. I can get PM’s but not send.

I think that this is so that, as a supplier you don’t spam all members? Not saying you would, but there is that possibility from unscrupulous (big word…) people.

Others have to have membership to have PM facilities.

yes alps did make the head for roland as far as i know don’t think i would bother to find out if it worked there is a lot more to these heads than first glance.

I rang Roland in The Netherlands and they told me the print-head can be obtained from them for 525€ + tax. They never heard of the fact that they discontinued supplying these. Off course they are not manufactured anymore but they should have a large enough stock for several more years of PC-60 printing! Regrettably the price is somewhat spicy I think!

As Chris said the heads were made by Alps and used in their MD printers, they then sold or licensed the technology to Oki who made them for a while but now don’t.
There is now a company selling the MD5000 for $1800! not a typo, think their called Perkis or something.

Anyway Alps USA stopped making the parts this year but as far as I know someone is still making them some were

People are now buying up all the second hand Alps when they become available with a good MD5000 going for as much as $1000 in the USA but most are in the $300 range so I don’t think it is really an option to buy one to see if the head fits.

The Alps printer you refer to – is this the little A4 wax printer with cartidges? I have 2 redundant here.

    Yes Alan that’s the ones.

Get them on Ebay, if the timing is right and they are in good condition then you’ll get good money for them, what sort are they?

I’ve got a MD4000 for doing model decals.

Somebody should know if these heads are the same. I have seen MD5000 printers go over EBAY as less as 200€!!! Would be a perfect replacement head for the PC60 (if it fits).

I have a picture of the ALPS head and it looks pretty much (if not exactly) the same anyway. The plastic cover however on top of the head will let a little more cooling air flow over the head however.

In the USA the ALPS printers do a lot more, that’s what I’ve noticed too!

Does anybody know if the head can be cleaned with (some kind of foam) and Isopropyl alcohol? instead of the pencil! (?)

    Hi all!
My name is Babis, I live in Athens-Greece, and I run a sign shop since 1993. I also surf in this great board instead of watching telly at night(‘:o’)
I’ve replaced the print head on my pc60 with a citizen "printiva" one
(its the same with the alps printer).
It cost me about 210€ (brand new) and it still works fine after 3 years.
It took me about 30 minutes to replace it and about two days to adjust it (‘:D’)
I use Isopropyl alcohol and regular cotton sticks to clean the head without problems.
    Hope this helps
    See you later

    Hi Babis,

Thanks….If this is true it is breakthrough news! Is it the Printiva 600/700 model which has the seem print head?

I could run a store on (used but OK) print heads because I can get the Printiva’s fairly easy. This way I could help anybody on this forum and others!

I also clean the Head with isopropanol (KONTAKT IPA spraycan) and it does print better and cleaner than it did before!

Kind regards and keep up the good news…makes me happy. Anyway where is your signstore…would be great to get some sun in Greece 🙂

Babis, will this Citizen head also fit the PC600 since it fits the pc60 or is the pc600 a whole different type head? I think I need to replace my pc600 head and would like to know if any of these other brands fit. Thanks!!

    Hi Keith
I was away for a few days so I couldn’t read your message.
I do not have a PC600 unfortunately so I can not give you an answer on this but I think it will fit on that too.
On the other hand considering that the pc600 has a ribbon saving function and it uses different cartridges
and maybe different temperatures, I’m not sure if its worth the risk of buying a citizen head, unless you find someone who did that before.
I can of course try to compare them if you send me some clear pics of it (front and top).
    Bye

In the earlier posts on this thread you can see what in my opinion is the great downfall of uksignboards and the reason for me that it is of little real use.

You can ask a valid question can someone help me ? but all they can answer is yes i can or no i can not, they are unable to put up any type of contact details, so you now know the person who can help you however you have to guess how, so really just a waste of time.

I wanted to buy a stand for my Mutoh cutter the other day and needed to contact Allan Flynn of Flynn signs, what i wanted was his mobile number as he was moving premises however using forum rules i can ask if anybody knows the number and all who do can answer yes BUT nobody can post it up, also i can post and ask Allan who uses the boards does he have a stand and he can say yes but can not go any further as not allowed to post contact details.

Every one suggest use PM but this is either disabled or does not work, so another waste of time.

I also notice in this type of thread the mods edit quickly but never get involved with any solutions.

How about a review of the forum rules so people can really help each other with full and comprehensive information.

    Russell.

Russell I don’t know why you can’t PM people, thought you could as a gold member. If I want to contact someone who I can’t PM I normally use either the email button or contact them through their website.
I notice you have a website so Ron should be able to contact you through that shouldn’t he?
