PC fonts?
Posted by magpie on 9 March 2004 at 16:39Hi all,
can anyone ID the fonts in this logo, I think they may be pc fonts.
If so could anyone recreate and convert text to outlines then save in ai or eps format for me to use on a mac.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Peter.
The top is Eras Medium and the middle is Eras Light
Not sure about that bottom one tho.
Looks like Pissmuckledeedunn Script to me!
Wish I knew how to convert stuff.
They are just Windows fonts.
Love…JILL 😉 -
Hi Jill,
thanks for that, but you only score 8/10 (WARNING: Nitpicker Mode Engaged) as it was actually
Eras Demi and Eras Bold (on the version I found anyways 😉 ).Hmmm now then –
Quick Find Results @ fonts.com
No fonts containing ‘Pissmuckledeedunn’.Do you mean Univers Condensed?
* Didn’t find the results you wanted? Try our Advanced Search, or contact us directly.
– some how I really don’t think so 😉
-
…and if you think thats sad, ask dewi about the ‘night vision binoculars’ – what a bargin!
-
Sorry Peter….
I was close tho.
Almost typed in Demi too. 😳
And there is no such thing as Pissmuckledeedunn…
That’s usually what I call that icky shade of green
you will sometimes see on shows like The Brady Bunch.
I was just being a smartypants.
Good Luck!
Love…JILL -
Now then now then Pete, no need to bring my ‘night vision apparatus’ into this 😮 Just because you’re jealous 😛
You could have bid on the Font Detective thingy in the auctions though, it would have found Pissmuckledeedunn in about 3 seconds, listed as:
PissmuckledeedunnLT.TTF
Not sure whether it works on the Mac though 😕 😉
Cheers, Dewi

Magpie,
I’ve got Eras for Mac.
If you’re not sorted by morning I’ll whistle them over when I get into work.
-
Sorry it’s taken until now but my network has been down while I tried to install a new file server. Anyway, back up and running now.
PM me your email and I’ll send the files over.

I have an aunty called Pissmuckledeedunn – she’s a lovely shade of green
-
No, that’s his second cousin once removed.
And she hand-letters and only uses alphabets, not fonts.
😉 Jill -
I know that script!!! (hot)
It’s Freestyle Script Reg.
I’ve got it as a PC font, I can repro it for .ai Mac if you like mate, let me know.
Cheers, Steve 😀
-
Well spotted Steve.
I’ve got Freestyle as a Mac font so I’ll email it to Magpie.
It’s OS X though so unless he is running that system it might not work for him and your offer of outlines might still be required. -
Morning John (it’s bloody snowing here Brrr 🙁 )
Ok mate, we’ll wait to see what Peter needs, it’s been a couple of days now since he needed it, most probably used Brushed Script by now 😉
John, Mac question, how are you getting on with OS X? I’m hanging onto sys 9.1 at the mo, I use Quark 4.1 which won’t run in OS X, I’ve read a lot of bad press & have been told by fed up graphic designers that Quark 6 on OS X is a joke, forever crashing & lots of font problems. What programs do you run on your Mac?
Cheers mate, Steve 😎

Morning Steve,
It’s not snowing here yet, but it was a tad cool out on the bike last night. 😀
We are still mainly OS 9.1 which I am reluctant to go away from partly because some of our computers just won’t run OS X, partly because the staff will need re-training, but mainly because having used the old OS for fourteen years there is nothing I can’t do with it and fix any problems very easily and quickly. OS X is completely different and I am having to learn a lot. There are no problems in everyday operations but integrating OS X into an existing system has caused some teething problems with set-up although I am getting over them one by one.
Despite my reluctance to change I realised that, like it or not, OS X is the future and that I had to get to grips with it so I put it onto my own computer and also my laptop so that I could become familiar with it myself before the rest of our gear has to be changed. Don’t get me wrong, it is not that difficult but certain aspects, like networking and fonts, need handling differently and while I would have relished this a few years ago I am now at the age when I don’t want to be bothered. I just want to switch on and have everything work out of the box. After all, that’s why I chose Macs in the first place.
We use Illustrator. I am running v10 on OS X on my computer and we also run v10 on OS 9.1 on a G4 and v8 on OS 8 on a G3. For cutting we have Illom Cutline on a pair of original iMacs running OS 8.6.
Sorry, I know nothing about Quark.
Regards – John

Thanks John,
Sorry to make this thread into a Mac forum, but Peter’s a Mac user as well, good grief… 3 Mac users on 1 page 😮I am so happy with how rock solid OS 9.1 is I am very loathed to upgrade, but I know 1 day it will happen 😕
In an ideal world I’ll leave my G4 as it is, running OS 9.1 with all fonts & Quark on board (also has a cool 😎 OpenGL screensaver called ‘Setting Sun’ & I know that won’t run in OSX) and then I’ll buy a NEW 😮 G5 dual processor + 23″ Apple flat screen, with Quark 6, Photoshop CS & Indesign all running happily under OS X Panther…… that’s my dream set up 😛 Trouble is that little set up will cost me approx £6000 😮
Ho Hum… I can dream… back to cutting sticky backed plastic 😥
Cheers, Steve

Steve,
Yes, perhaps we should have a separate Mac thread somewhere.
I never had a problem with OS 9 but I do think, and this is purely subjective, that X is possibly a little bit more stable. Of course it is mainly down to the software you are running, especially all the little bits like drivers for third party gear, but in the time I have been running OS X, probably about a year now, I have only had to re-start about four times. That can’t be bad.
-
Hi John,
4 times in a year 😮 My PC needs restarting 4 times a week! if I’m lucky! while my trusty G4 just sits next to it without a glitch 😉
Hey if you’re interested have a look at this thread on a Mac OSx forum, there are some very pissed off graphic designers in big publishing companies not happy bunnies!! (chat.) http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthrea … adid=20655

Hi guys, sorry to be so behind on this thread, great reading though.
Firstly, thanks for the help both of you. John I’m on 9.1 which might explain why the font folder
was empty when I tried to use it, so I traced the freestyle in Ill9 and applied a / type brush to it. Thanks anyway, if the customer rejects it I’ll take you up on your offer Steve.A lot of the equipment here where I work is relatively old, but it does the job. I’m the lucky one as I have the G4, but as I do the bulk of the production work thats only fair.
Our rips are quite old and we send most of our artwork from Quark 3, usually after converting files into eps format so we can do it.
Later revisions of Quark are a joke, trying to make it something its not. Frankly most places submitting artwork don’t have a clue what they’re doing, if they did then everybody would still be using Q3/4, Illustrator 8 and photoshop 5.5.
Most later revisions of all this software merely seems to automated most of what you could do manually in the earlier versions. Having recently looked at corel packages it seems to me Adobe could have implimented some real additions/functions in their so called upgrades rather than faking it.(hot) Grrr can you tell I get hacked off with money grabing bloatwear!
Anyhow, feel better now, thanks again guys.

Don’t get me started on bloatware.
My first computer was a Mac IIci with OS 6.0.8 and Illustrator 3. Now I’m running a Mac G4 DP with OS X and Illustrator 10 but the work doesn’t get done any quicker than it did all those years ago. Increase in computer speed has been more than gobbled up by bigger and slower software.
I think a lot of Mac people have old kit. We certainly do because it keeps working and doesn’t give problems. It depends on what you are trying to do but for many of the tasks we have an old computer is more than adequate. For instance, running cutters is a very simple job and a fancy computer would be wasted doing it therefore the original model iMacs that we use will not be replaced until they go bang.
What we do in practice is that I like to have a fairly recent machine to cope with the bloatware to do the fancy stuff on and when I buy a new one for myself the old ones get moved down the food chain through the other two design stations, accounts, and finally relegated to cutter driving.
Out the back I have a pile of old Macs including my first IIci, an LC3, an original 601 Powermac, something with a 604 processor in of which I forget the model number and a 233 Mhz G3 beige desktop. I know that they are wasting space but I am reluctant to throw them out as they all still work and could be pressed back into service in an emergency. They might also be useful if ever I need a computer to do a basic job, for instance, I am thinking of pressing the old G3 into use as an email server, which it is more than capable of doing.
My point, eventually, is that we have never replaced a computer because it was no longer capable of doing our job, only to cope with bloatware.

Hi Peter, shame you had to hand trace in ill9, that’s the main thing I use ill9 for, scan it in Pshop7, cut n paste into ill9, cup of coffee & some nice tunes & start using the beziure curve tools, very theraputic (unless you have a killer deadline of course 👿 )
Corel Draw 11….. fantastic bit of kit, I bet Adobe are worried, I bet Quark are sh*ting themselves 😮
My offset printer man uses it for everything, artwork, imposition & film making. He’s forever telling me ‘Why can’t Quark be as good & as easy!!’Quark had an extension program called ‘Imposition’, this would take artwork & lay it out however many you needed to print up and make it ready for going to press, this little progam cost approx £1500 (don’t quote me, but it was well over a grand) …. Corel Draw 11 does it as part of the included package.
I’ts as if the Corel company stood back & looked at the laughable Quark vs Adobe battle & decided, we can do all this without the bullsh*t & cheaper AND on a blooody PC!!
Luckily Corel Draw 11 is also available on Mac……. but only OSX 👿Rant over………….. grrr
Steve 😉

Hey John, this is great, talking Macs……… bloody fantastic 😀
My 1st Mac was a IICX, back in 1989!!!! I was on sys 6.5 i think…. do you remember the excitement over ….SYSTEM 7 😮 😮 😮It was so fantastic there was even a band named after it… Steve Hillage’s ‘System 7’ (bit 2 hippie 4 me though) 🙄
Macs do seem to go on & on, tough little blighters (mind you the Performas were crap) they are good quality tools that do the job & let you get on with life & don’t need ‘tweaking’ & ‘upgrading’ all the time.
Later buddies,
Steve 😀
-
Oh yes.
In my opinion system 7.1 was the best operating system for professional use. Simple and fast. It’s all been downhill since then. 🙁
Who needs all those fancy brushed metallic windows and pulsating buttons just to cut a few letters out of vinyl?
