‘Paypal Here’ & Barclaycard Anywhere’ card readers..
Do any of you use either the "Paypal Here" or Barclays "Barclaycard Anywhere" mobile card terminals – The ones which work through your smartphone?
I’m looking to do a few trade shows and have been trying to research the items without much success,
Paypal Here works via bluetooth and the terminal carries it’s own charge, I like the security aspect of this as it means I don’t have to have my phone in easy reach of passers by – Unlike the Barclays reader which is connected via a small cable .The main advantage I see in the barclaycard reader is the 2.9% fee per trans, rather than paypals 3.4% + 20p per trans – though I guess that’s only a difference of £5.20 on a 1k sale!
The advantage of the paypal reader is that it doesn’t matter if I switch banks, I’m not tied to any specific account.. Hmm – I think that might have just decided it for me!
Do either take payments when not in range of a signal or wifi? I know the proper mobile (sim operated) terminals can store payments and just put them all through when the terminal comes into signal range, I understand there’s an element of risk here but if the show is in a dead area or the 3/4G & wifi are chogged up with people checking facebook, it could be an issue.
Anyway – real actual "i have and use one" advice will be gratefully accepted.
