Can someone please recommend a supplier of composite panels and oracal vinyls etc who are competetive with paperlinx – struggling to find reasons to stay with them but a good few reasons not to.

Just placed an order for a sheet of 3050 x 1500 with just two cuts and was told it would be a £10 cutting fee, not only is there a £10 cutting fee but at 2pm – 1hr before the cut off time, I can’t get next day delivery, and as they don’t have the colour of board I require, I had to also buy 5m of 1260 vinyl to flood the panels.

essentially £155 for 10m 630 gold vinyl and 1 sheet of board which won’t be delivered until thursday – for a job that is to be installed first thing friday. if it wasn;t for the delivery charge on the vinyl I would have gone elsewhere to someone who did have the correct sheet in stock. all I thikn I’ve done now is caused myself more work in the name of some misguided loyalty.

oh – and then there’s the 10m of 630 wide 551 vinyl I bought a week or so back…. I have three signs to do, P’linx decide that they don’t stock it in 630 and slit down 5m of 1260… leaving me to make one sign from two tail ends…

    bring back europoint.

    rant over.

might give them a go again, last time I used Blackburns they were very prompt and the price was ok but, the delivery was made up of at least two different brands of composite which was visible – luckily not to the customer!

it’s the £10 cut charge that gets my goat, it’s just two / three cuts, I’m not asking for a sheet to be cut into a gazillion A4 chunks _ which I have paid for in the past.

my last few composite orders have not attracted the cutting fee – which was apparently made mandatory in January.

just sometimes wonder if anyone is actually ‘on your side’.

    Antalis!

they do board (cheaper than what RHG quote us)
they do Oracal vinyl (similar to RHG quote)

free delivery on orders over £50 IIRC.

We’ve started using them over RHG

You may of started a trend here lol.
Called antalis for some prices will see what they are like then play the guessing game of whether they have a good delivery service

been using paperlinx for 10mnths now and if it wasnt for how competetive their prices are and how helpful my rep is I would of gone else where too.
had severall issues with distribution and couriers!

On the other hand I dont want to bad mouth them as 8 out of 10 times i get great service and competetive prices

but the main serious moannn as Hugh says

The vinyl at 1260 and cutting down to two lots of 610!! bleedin heck

Only recently encountered this and ended up paying much more PLM from someone else just to have it one piece lol.

    Another note
after some discussion, Amari gave me some more realistic prices and do offer a free cutting service for any straight cuts but I have the luxury of a depot in driving range

    I agree Paul,

90% of the time the service is great, helpful on the phone, excellent drivers who know where stuff goes if I’m not here etc.

Just the cut charges which seem to be randomly applied.

The slitting down rolls so I end up with the right length but in two bits = more waste. this is on oracle 551, hardly an uncommon vinyl.

would be nice if they did a better range of coloured composite boards (such as multipanel do) too.

You have just reminded me I am still waiting for a credit back to my account, after they sent out the wrong colour composite and charged me for the replacement, despite collecting the cut-to-size blue board, which should have been silver !
It’s been 3+ weeks, and I am chasing them.

I also have had to have vinyl slit and recieved 2 pieces.

Has anyone else been quoted a lower price on the phone, then on querying the invoice price, been told that the higher price is what is on my account? So am I getting UKSG discounts? Who knows, maybe we are all paying different….

Antalis will be my next call I think.

I order for two different companies to Robert Horne and for the Same material i pay two different prices even tho i have my uksignboards discount on one i still pay more than i do phoning from the other company.

I think what we have is an online price that you see when you log into RHG’s site, which most of us dont pay then you have a discount for being a member here. Then you have a discount if your a bigger buyer from them too even if your just ordering one roll.

Also, i think it depends on which sales person you get on the day and how much you paid before.

We dont get charged for cuts to a roll or for a few cuts to composite material.

As far as i know as well, we dont get charged for delivery.

So i guess its how much you buy from them that decides how much you pay.

In saying all that….there all a still a GREAT bunch! 😀

Oh and remember you pay more for coloured vinyl than you do for black or white….keep forgeting that when i ask for a price then order a colour lol

the other thing they REALLY need to do is to bring their payment system up to date. They can take vinyl orders up until 6pm but, as I forget form time to time, they cannot process card payments over the phone after about 5:30, why can they not have something as simple as sagepay, or even an online log-in with my prices set, taking either paypal or worldpay?

it’s a real bind as I will now have to wait until monday for my order as they can’t take the order and call back for payment in the morning. I’ll now have to trawl round the other sign co’s tomorrow to find some red to finish a job where the material screwed up in the plotter at 5:45…. or tell the customer I can’t complete his job on time.

Think I’ll be spending some time on the paperlinx stand at sign UK.

why can they not just have one set of prices for us, stick to them, and even be able to find me half the time?

    argh
