  • Overlapping Design Query…What To Tell Customer??

Posted by Chris Parsons on 2 May 2006 at 12:39

    Hi folks,

I was just wondering…when it comes to large designs on the side of vans/trucks.

Do you explain to the customer the need to use several overlapping sections of vinyl to get the job done? Or do you just get on with it?

    Cheers.

my customers should supply the files as images only…

if we are fitting and printing the print, we put the ‘right’ overlapps on.

If customer is fitting and we are printing, they are expected to put their own overlaps on, but the rip software can handle it if needed.

I suggest telling the customer you are going to have overlaps so there is no suprises when the van is done ie customer says "I didnt want seams on the print" you have put them on without explaining….if he was awkward you could be in trouble.

    just my 10 bobs worth

Thanks guys…just what I needed to know. 🙂

I thought I had better check up what the normal way of handling these things with customers. I always explain to the customer about the overlapping, but a few have not gone ahead with the order when I explained the need for overlapping.

I think it was the first time they were having such a large design of their vehicles.

Just wondering…what size overlap do you use?

Is it different for solid vinyl compared to printed designs?

    Cheers

I always explain to the customer that there will be an overlap on the bigger stuff.
    (I only have a 15" plotter)
    Usually they don’t care.
Always remember to put the top part on last.
