• Outdoor sign Qs

Hi there I have a couple of questions.

We have a job to fit an outdoor school sign 1500×700 onto existing round posts.
We are going to print onto vinyl, laminate and then mount onto 10mm pvc board.

    1. What is the best way to fit this onto the posts? I am guessing brackets?
where to source these if this is the only option.

    2. The school want rounded corners for safety reasons.
    a. can I round the corners on PVC board? if so, how?
    b. alternatively can you buy custom framing suitable for outdoor use with bull nose style rounded corners? if so, where from?

    Thanks Dave

    David
firstly i wouldn’t use foam board but use ali composite you can then attach sign track (i use VHB tape but some people use rivets) to the rear of it and then use the correct clamps to match. Link may help you

Excuse my ignorance as i have never used it.
How do you mount onto alu board?
Is it easy enough to use.
Is it pre cut to the finished size.

Which vhb tape would you advise for this?

    All info appreciated.

I would just buy it in from someone like blackburns. That way it will be fixed to the channel, you can get rounded corners and they will sort the clips out for you at the same time

We couldn’t buy it pre-fixed, as we couldn’t mount it then?

    Is this right?

You could easily mount the graphic if the rails were attached yes but you would have to do it by hand, wouldn’t be able to run the panel through the laminator with the rails fitted.

Agree with above – use ali board (ACM,Dibond, Skybond – a few differnet names).

Is can be cut / shaped with a router if you need corner rounds, can also be cut with hand corner pliers or guillotines.

A few companies will make the blanks up for you (ACM or 100% aluminium) with the channels applied – as Martin says, this will make it difficult to then run through the laminator.

Channel and post clips can be bought and applied using VBH tape (Very High Bond).

Check signgeer website for examples – other companies also sell rails & clips.

Agree with using Ali composite or even 2 or 3mm aluminium sheet. Both easy enough to round the corners with a saw and a file if need be. 3M VHB tape or structural adhesive to bond rail on the back and jobs a goodun!

I’ve made a running board where you can run panels with channel to reverse through a laminator. You just have to run battens down the length of your board to raise the channels off giving you equal pressure across the panel. Works a treat!
