  • outdoor, lockable display case supplier?

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 7 October 2005 at 15:06

A customer wishes to have an outdoor (weather-proof), tamper-proof, lockable display case for a local village green.

They want it signed up inside, with space to add names (blah Blah wishes to thank….type of thing), and also to post notices of local events etc.

    Is there any such thing?

We get our local “Chippie” to knock these up using clear perspex for the door front. If you know a good carpenter I’m sure he can help.
Let me know if you want a pic, I will take one in the village I live.
    Cheers

Lorraine there are a number of supliers of these sort of display cases, don’t have any details to hand but will sort some out. I personally think they are expensive for what they are and have quoted customers in the past for either one of these display cases or one I made myself. Most of the ones I have made have been for restraunts and have been illuminated. They are not difficult to make and this may be a better option for you.

Not robust enough, but similar. This will have to be mounted between 2 concrete posts on a fence-line, suspended on angle-iron or similar, or fixed into the ground free-standing. Does this make sense?

You could give signconex a ring as they make these sort of things to order. I have used a couple of display cases from them and they have been very good quality. I had lockable weatherproof display cases and so far they havnt been tampered with. I would hate to have to say that anything is vandal proof as I don’t think anything is. 😀

as has been said, many sources for this sort of thing, problem i have found is that you pay top dollar for crap.
i dont mean that in a “oh its crap and thats that” or “im a cheapskate at buying in” i had a job pending for a whie a few months back. infact before signuk. it gave me time to shop around and then at the show see cases, open and close etc see what was/wasnt a good product end result, if you want a good case you will pay for it. “top dollar”
the ones you nwill see doing trade supplies at reasonable prices “£250 for 30inch x 20” are pretty flimsy. the case is just like a lightbox so is strong and does the job well. but the problem is in the door.
you have a light aluminium door frame with 3mm perspex in it and only corner brackets holding it together. samll hinges and bogg standard crap locks that are a pain at time to just snib over. to get something substantial as a door it must have good hinges and folding support arms. decent lock. like i said you will pay.

anyway, my couple of glasses of wine are now kicking in and im babbling :lol1: ahem… i mean my 5 straight whiskeys 😕

the one you are after, if not like a high street case on legs, ide suggest trying to get it made for you if a one off. i recon you maybe cheaper or get same price for a better job.

if i can think of some good suppliers of this sorta thing ill re-post here.

I’m currently in this dilema myself as I require the same but to fix to the outside of a building.

If you do purchase one make sure it is and external as my client came to me as they had previously been supplied (what I suspect was) an internal unit as it kept filling with water.

Rob, would be most useful if the wine has worn off If you have any details of products or suppliers of the better quality cases you found after your search..would be most appreciatted.

    Cheers

    Tim.

they will go away soon john, we “just update” the site… and the spellchecker doesnt recognise us a “pay for no adverts site” anymore.
but will be rectified very soon. we have on going work right at this minute behind the scenes, so fixing it right now, will only mean doing the same in a few days when other stuff is done. so will “all” be 100% very soon. 😉

ill have to call northern signcases. wasnt aware they did them.
something i never mentioned though… i was looking for a custom size, not a menu case or that sorta bog standard size one. does nothern sign cases offer this custom service too?
