  • One-Way window vinyl whats the correct term?

Posted by John Wilson on 16 May 2006 at 19:36

Not sure what it’s called but I’m looking for the one-way safety vinyl for the back of van windows so people can’t see in.

Anyone know a supplier 🙂 or what it’s called to start with lol 😳

    Cheers

you can buy it from car parts places and also b&q. do yourself a favour. just tellthe custimer to buy it and apply… its crap material to work with. you need to get it 100% or the headaches start. maybe its because its using water i dont get on with it. 😉

think ist about £25 for enough to do the back two windows.

you can buy good grade stuff from trade suppliers though but you will have minimum order and its not cheap.

    advice: body swerve it!

Ah! Window Film is easy! lol Speaking from experience, I wouldn’t use the cheap stuff, nor Halfords etc as it isn’t very UV stable. You need something by CP Films, Bekaert, Anglian Window films or Johnsons….. Although you may not be able to buy it as a non window film company….could be wrong though.

Is it your van? or is it for a customer?

Cheers for the advice everyone, I want it for a little project that I’m doing at home to start with.

Not large patches but small 4×4" squares and another part for a window graphic I’m doing for the kids bedroom

    Ah!

If it’s for the kids bedroom are you aware that it isn’t one way vision, which is what the thread header suggests you are looking for. There is no such thing.

It has a silvered layer but vision is just as good from both sides. It only appears one way in vans because they are darker inside than out.

Really I remember my mate using something on his house windows a few years ago to stop people from seeing in and he was still able to see out 😕

Perhaps it was wrong to say that there is no such thing. It might have been better to say that I’ve never seen or heard of one. Certainly the type of mirror film we are talking about here, the sort we put in van rear windows, isn’t one way.

I’ve got some in my office window and, sure enough, during the day I can see out but nobody can see in. Guess what happens at night with the lights on when it is dark outside. 😀

John, if you are going to be doing things like that at night, you should really turn the lights off, or use candle light. The ladies say it’s more romantic. 😉

I’ll take your word for it Marek. I really don’t want to get involved in the ladies and candles thing! 😀

Nik – PM me for an explanation. 😀

    😮

It is only mirror from the brightest side. As has been said, night time with the lights on, you will not be able to see out, but everyone will see in from outside.
