on the road
Posted by squareone on 6 April 2007 at 21:23Can I run a 24′ inch cutter off an inverter or a generator. I called the manufacturer of the plotter and they don’t seem to know which way is up.
Any advice would be great
Thanks,

i sometimes take my summa d60 to the drag track for some of the bigger events, i run it, and my laptop, from a 1200w invertor, simply connects to the battery, usually start the vehicle for twenty mins every couple of hours to charge the battery a bit, only once flattened it !
ps, i went the invertor route because, as good and reliable as generators are, they still spike and lull and i didnt want to risk damaging either tha laptop or the cutter, i simply don’t trust the regulators etc on them !

i wouldn’t run it from a generator because of electrical spikes, however it should be ok from an inverter as its pure sine wave. But check with the inverter supplier as even inverters can have problems with certain kit.Kev

Well the only reason i thought maybe a generator, is because the manufacture told me an inverter would not work. The woman said something about a generator and then when i called back and said it would not work.
I figured i would have better luck in here, if i found someone who had already tried itThanks Huge, but how did find out which inverter was best for your plotter
Thanks

thats not an inverter its a jump start booster for a car, check the link outhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-4000W-MAX-200 … dZViewItem
You need to work out the total wattage of your computer & cutter to know what size inverter you will need, add a safety margin of 50%.

I would just get a really long extension lead and plug it into the nearest mains socket you can find 😕

Yes an inverter will work, we run a small cutter and a laptop from an inverter. It is a godsend being able to cut on the road.
