• Omega 5.0 help

I have recently purchased the above software. I’m completely new to it. I’m trying to print and cut designs.
At the moment I’m really struggling to use it as I have no guidance ie beginners guide etc to work from as the users manual guide is for someone who has previously used omega before and spandex want £500 to show me how to use it which I can not afford to do.

At the moment when I’m sending jobs to print and cut it only cuts in one go (box style) not individually then if I send something straight to cut like text it will cut individually, however if its more than one symbol it will just do it in one cut again not individually or cut circular around each one.

    Can anyone help me please

Hi Margaret, we use Omega. Are you working in wireframe mode. Have you printed anything? Does it print okay?

If your just importing a image (JPEG etc) you’ll need to generate a cut path around the object. This can be achieved by going to the top menu and selecting "Tools" and "Generate Decal Cut".

Then right click the cursor over the image and select "image fill" and make sure the option "process" in the color type is selected.

The print isn’t great but I just assumed I was printing with the wrong wrong foils for the vinyl I using ( using and learning on the stock I was given when i purchased the machines)

John I will try that in the morning a d will let you know

Hi Margaret, are you printing a bitmap file or a vector file as this will greatly affect the way you print using an Edge.

Cutlines are fairly straight forward if you use a vector file.

Hi Margaret, I would start by drawing two squares then if you are unsure of the above. One larger than the other, Have a go at placing one inside the other. Do all of this in wireframe mode. The square inside assign a colour to print with your foil and the outside line just use as a cutline.

Just play about with these simple principles initially, check with the Omega manual about applying fills if you are not sure.

I would recommend that you consider training though as the time and material you will waste trying to learn this may be equivalent to what you would have spent. You can also ask the trainer questions regarding the maintenance of these machines which would be priceless and could save you far more than £500. I know Spandex are running their Edge roadshow again, this may help?
