OKI C7200
Posted by dazlad on 4 January 2005 at 09:07hi lads just a quick question – can the OKI C7200 be used to print onto acetate to make number plates and small signs?
also will the jigs and software (lg), that automarque sell fit this printer?

Probably, but you may need to use a toner fixative. Can’t remember the exact name of the stuff, but you spray/brush it onto the acetate and it forces more toner to stick, making blacks blacker etc etc I think the other option is to buy specifically laser-compatible acetate, but its not the cheapest stuff 😕 Could be wrong, but both ways seem expensive and fussy.
Have you bought the OKI or do you already own it or?? I think the LG is only about £1500 from Automarque, but I’m sure Dazzel mentioned he could do it on lease terms, something like that (?)
For the same money though, you could get something like the PC60, just print onto clear vinyl for number plates, white/coloured vinyls for signs, and you get the added bonus of being able to kiss cut. May be worth a look.

hi dewi thanks for the reply – no i have not brought the machine yet as i wanted to know a bit more. at the moment im doing plates with vinyl but the multicoloured ones are a pain.
i have to reverse cut and apply wet to the perspex (if i dont apply wet i get shiny silver streaks in the glue when you look at the front of the plate) then i roll on the adhesive backing.
am i doing anything wrong?thanks Dazlad

I presume you’re using adhesive backing and non-adhesive acrylics?
I use the reverse from that, a non-adhesive backing, and an adhesive acrylic. You apply the vinyl to the backing, then mount the acrylic on top before popping it through the rollers to seal it. Its a little tricky to line up, but once you’ve got the hang of it, you can make a standard plate in no time. A change of materials and you’ll be making plates as fast as. 😀
I know I sound like a stuck record, but if you ring Dazzel (Paul) at Automarque, he sells all the gear I mentioned above, doubt it’ll be any more expensive than what you’re already using. He’ll probably be able to sort you with the rollers as well 😀
