Oki C5250N?
Posted by Nathan on 26 February 2006 at 23:58I’m thinking of getting a Oki C5250N for printing number plates. After reading previous posts I can’t work out if the specialised resellers sell a modded version or I can just purchase a standard printer direct from Oki?
Thanks

They are modified to print on heat resistant vinyl etc.
Standard Oki won’t do this.Martin

Are they modified via hardware or software upgrades?
Thanks

Hardware I believe.

Martin,
a standard Oki will print on to number plate material, I run one with no problems. No laser prints onto vinyl its actually polyester, machines are modded i believe when sold via number plate suppliers to give denser colour. However you can adjust density on machine slightly i’ve been running mine for 10 months with no problems.Kev

Nathan I am using a Samsung modified by SIGNAM. It is working really well. Happy to give you more details if you wish.

Interesting Kev
It is polyester your right, although I print small stickers for myself on calendered vinyl, as long as you keep them flat, ie don’t crease them they work pretty well.
I don’t make number plates anymore, gave up when new laws came in although I am registered with the DVLA too make them. So I went without the software from Tennants.
Kev do you know where to buy that polyester from any cheaper than
you can get it from Tennants?By the way where are you based, I seem to remember you being east London, Dagenham area?

Following on from the number plates is this machine also suitable for safety signs? If so can they be used externally?
Thanks

I am based in Maldon, Essex moved from Hornchurch 5 years ago
Both my grandparents used to live in Dagenham so know it well.
I was working in Chadwell Heath yesterday just down the road from you.
I run out of post mix and got stuck in the Fiddlers what used to be roundabout traffic, only to find the B&Q had shut down, ended up at Roneo corner branch. All that Traffic made me realize why I moved away.Martin
