• Oki 5250..again

Posted by Kenny Ramsey on 15 May 2006 at 21:46

Hope this is in the right place.

Basically, the latest problem I am having with my Oki is that the print frequently loses colour for example, a red will suddenly turn to an orange shade and then come back to red before the end of the plate and a blue flood fill will turn magenta as if the cyan has ran out be fine on the next plate. Also, there are problems keeping the black solid rather than fading.

Getting technical support is proving a right pain and there is nothing in the user manul to address these issues. Cartridges are only new so it shouldn’t be them.

    Any help is hugely appreciated.

    Cheers
    Kenny

It sounds like your printer is being intermittently starved of Cyan ink. I don’t know why (perhaps a faulty damper?) – can you run some test prints to check if this is the case? I would try printing solid blocks of cyan yellow Magenta and black to establish if the problem is confined to one colour only (Cyan?) which can then lead you to establish what may be at fault

This sounds like a problem with the laser film quality.

To be honest, I bought the printer from a local number plate supplier but I have bought my acetates online from LG Signs.

The settings are basically standard as far as I can tell except I set it to Transparency and Best Quality.

And yes it is being used for numberplates.

    Thanks

don’t set it to the transparency setting, i use heavy card. Reason being it takes the material through slower. Acetates from LG, Tennants & Automarque are all the same with most of the smaller suppliers also providing products supplied originally by them. Also there is no need to use the best setting, but you can adjust the brightness, contrass etc. In the firmware you can also adjust density all but very slightly.

Let us know how you get on

Thanks Kevin. I will try that.

Regarding the firmware, how can I be sure that it has been installed on my printer?

Sorry. In case it’s relevant, I am using Flexisign 7.6.

    Kevin.

Changed to Heavy in the prinet properties page and it has improved the blacks and greys no end. The red/blues etc are every bit as bad though. The red in particular still has the imperfections and is now a very pale red 🙁

Is there any way of cleaning the printer to make sure that is not a problem?
    Thanks

    Just a quick further update.

The print on ordinary paper is perfect. 😕

didn’t realise u was using Flexi, you could try playing with the colour palette. Are you using the default palette in Flexi? Colours are always a little wishy washy on transparent, There was talk that machines sold by Tennants LG etc was slightly modified to provide a denser color.

Can I ask if your using Genuine OKI cartridges or compatible cartridges, as I’ve just started having the same problems.

Only started when I started using the cheaper toners.

( I remember someone saying on this board. "Buy it cheap, Buy it twice"

I’m still on the 1st set of genuine oki cartridges. I have made some progress of late but I will double check before I tell how I solved it.
