It seems that just about everyone is going to SignUK, even some member’s that are not from the UK……… is there anyone that isn’t going?

Not that I’m complaining before anyone attacks me :lol1:

The best thing I ever did for my (new) business was take the time out to go to Sign UK. There is so much going on that I would not miss it for the world-and haven’t, ever since my 1st one.

Had been planning to go, registered and everything but it’s fallen on a really awkward week as we have to go to Yorkshire on thursday and there is just too much to do before then.

If it was a similar date (April) to last year, it wouldn’t have clashed 🙁

Oh well, looks like I’ll keep April and May free for 2007 til they announce the dates then they will be carved in stone in front of the desk 😀

i was at the show yesterday… watched the stands being erected. forklifts trucks, carpets, lights, people busy at it working everywhere… one thing it woke me upto is the amount the suppliers must have to fork out, not only on for the stand space, staffing etc, but the actual construction of the stands… i recon 90% of the big stands like rolands, grafityp, b&p to name a few goes right into a big skip after the show. 😕
anyway… drove down yesterday morning, back last night. driving back down wendesday morning, back thursday night… then i am off to stirling till sunday.

you need to overcome your fear of flying Robert……. how much easier would that have made your week! Driving to Birmingham and back from here is a fair jaunt…… maybe 5-6 hours there and another 5-6 hours back? In one day that’s a lot of driving. 😮

Come on Dave answer Chris’s question!

I have just read Shane’s reply and do go along with that, I think after being in business for a while and knowing your customers you sort of know whats dead urgent and what they can wait another day for. In their opinion everything they want is of the upmost urgency.

But ultimately the customer is the one keeping you in business.

Well ask yourself this.. shape your business’s future by learning at signuk vs one customer. Depends on that customer I suppose.

It also depends on the situation, as this is a job that I did for them that has a couple of mistakes on it (my fault) and the deadline is tomorrow, then I feel that I should make every effort to sort it out for them. Its annoying though as the problem is a couple of dust specks under the laminate, frustrating as I didnt spot them!!!!!

    You mysterious man Dave 😎

I too am going tomorrow to see how I can shape/grow my business,
although very busy theres nothing life or death, in a case like Jane’s
it would be difficult, the customers work has got to be done very pronto
and when theres only her to do it, I dont think she has an option.

See you tomorrow at the bar Dave, if your good I might let you buy me a beer :lol1:

I hope you all have a great time meeting up at the exhibition. Unfortunately I am not going this year, I was there a couple of years ago and met up with Rob, John Singh and a few others that were regulars here. I would have liked to have visited again this year but had left my options open thinking I would decide at the last minute if I had time I would go. However, I have concluded that Peter’s right – you have to plan something like this and make the commitment a few months in advance as there will always be too much work to do. If you commit to going it’s easy to then plan your work load around it. I wouldn’t cancel a holiday or even a dentists appointment just because some customer wanted a sign in a hurry (:)

Have a great time everyone and remember to post the pictures here 😀

ok ok.. i give in… im sorry… i just feel that customers leave things to the last minute as you end up performing better for them… they also pretend that they need things done urgently when they dont (mistakes happen).. they also expect you to perform miracles like dry paint quickly… they may also expect a perfect well designed sign in no time at all, when they jotted down a logo/plan.

It just needs to be well planned if it is a big job.. not all customers are like that… just a hand full whine to make it like your problem when they have had weeks to plan ahead with us.

    Oh well maybe next year.

Perhaps the organisers ought to think of ending the show on a saturday or start on a sunday, I’m sure there are many sign people who just can’t get there on a weekday.

Could be an idea for a poll.

Have a good time those who get to sign uk.

    I can’t say Marek,
The person would get in trouble. I was upset but not his fault for some reason my details where on google but i asked him to take it off cos its personal.

I’ve had a call from a UKSB member from the UK too, had a lovely chat, made my day actually, but I assume he got my details off my www link that can be seen by UKSG members.

If the call was anything other than a friendly personal call, I’d be upset too Nancy. Not sure how you could get your details on google unless you’d made it public somewhere tho.

I had someone overhear a conversation about me the other day, and decided to google my name. Google came up with UKSB’s and some of my posts. He worked out I was queensland based (he is in sydney) and then google sign shops in qld with shane and drew in the search field.

Took him about 15 minutes to narrow it down to me.

He rang me with some gossip that let me nip something in the bud, and I was able to correct something that had been misinterpreted.

So I suppose if you are really keen, everyone can get googled to some point.

its cool now Shane no i don’t advertise yet i asked google to remove that info and especially my mobile number i would never put it up on google so people prank me all the time. or home number as well my kido would answer the phone. or home address so people come at me at night. its scary but i received an email from google and they took it off. 😉 im happy

I wish I was 24!!!!!!! You’ve got no worries, try reversing those two numbers and adding 1, as for books I hate doing them, I always leave it to last minute and then have to spend hours trying to make evrything add up :lol1:

I hear ya Jayne. I’m 46 this year. At 24 I thought I had the worries of the world on my shoulders, I’d love that sort of pressure now. Nothing like the pressures I have now…

As far as my books go, I’ve never done them in truth. My father has done them for me for 30 years. Now he’s in hospital, and off work for a few months, I’ll have to sweet talk my sister, or my wife. They both do that sort of stuff everyday for a company that turns over $5m a month and has 300 staff. (My sister is my wifes boss) I can’t imagine my little company will be that hard for either of them…

… and before you say it… yes I am spoilt.. :lol1:

I totally agree I’m 46 this year Shane, I know that will shock you your thinking I only look about 28 tops. But when does the pressure ease (?)

As for book keeping I was like you Jayne, I’d get the VAT return in and do it all in one go, took a good few hours. Now days I have someone to do my books. godsend 🙂

Just one final thing: God your spoilt Shane (!) (!)
