Not that I’m complaining before anyone attacks me :lol1:

I decided months ago I was going to signuk… and the trossachs, I am treating both like a wedding or a funeral, so no matter what happens arrangements have to go ahead…..(I will probably die or be killed at the trossachs anyway)

The best thing I ever did for my (new) business was take the time out to go to Sign UK. There is so much going on that I would not miss it for the world-and haven’t, ever since my 1st one.
Now that I am going to meet other ‘Signies’ I am looking forward to it even more.Sad, I know.

Can I mind the shop when you are all away, please Rob, pretty please :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

my spirit will surely be there ( preferable vodka ) 😎

Had been planning to go, registered and everything but it’s fallen on a really awkward week as we have to go to Yorkshire on thursday and there is just too much to do before then.
If it was a similar date (April) to last year, it wouldn’t have clashed 🙁
Oh well, looks like I’ll keep April and May free for 2007 til they announce the dates then they will be carved in stone in front of the desk 😀
-
Have fun everyone!!
and remember…..while the cats away….the mice will play. :lol1:
-
I’d love to go and meet all you lot but my girlfriend and I are expecting our first baby on Wednesday so I think maybe next year.
Have fun.

Was looking fwd to going for months and now work coming outa my ears so unless we get some cancelations we carnt go, But if any1 does go have a word with EUROPOINT for me and ask if my order from FEBUARY !! will be arriving THIS YEAR anytime LOL (:)
-
It’s looking a bit dodgy for me at the moment….
Bloody customers! You quote a job 2 months in advance and they decide they want it Wednesday this week. Gits.
-
I had every intention of going but work has gone stupid and I might have to miss it. I’m gonna do my best to be there though.
If anybody in the Falkirk area would like to make my life a little easier, and earn a few quid at the same time………

Strip and re-fit on a new van which I can get delivered to your premises and collected afterwards.
-
Hang on maybe we should rename this thread who is going??
Must admit I’m bogged out with work, but I have commited myself to going, haven’t been for years, last time I went the Roland Colour Camm
had just came out, have things moved on since then? 😕And time before that the Edge had just come out I’m sure it was @£25k.

Good luck Russ…. let us know when the baby arrives! 😀
John Childs – you’d better be there, I owe you a drink! 😉
-
Hm.. we always seen SignUK more important then customers 🙄 … it help shapes your next purchase in machinery and you get to see and ask first hand what the machines do.

Can I have John’s drink if he doesn’t turn up Marcella?? :lol1:

Wait a minute – don’t give Martin my drink.
I can always get it another time !!!!!

trust me… i’m a little dissapointed, but when push comes to shove, i’m not in a position to be turning down money, to go and spend it ! it’s a 350+mile round trip for me, and my engine in crewe, which is supposed to be finished, aint finished, so i cant use that for an excuse to go either !
thanks anyways.

i was at the show yesterday… watched the stands being erected. forklifts trucks, carpets, lights, people busy at it working everywhere… one thing it woke me upto is the amount the suppliers must have to fork out, not only on for the stand space, staffing etc, but the actual construction of the stands… i recon 90% of the big stands like rolands, grafityp, b&p to name a few goes right into a big skip after the show. 😕
anyway… drove down yesterday morning, back last night. driving back down wendesday morning, back thursday night… then i am off to stirling till sunday. -

you need to overcome your fear of flying Robert……. how much easier would that have made your week! Driving to Birmingham and back from here is a fair jaunt…… maybe 5-6 hours there and another 5-6 hours back? In one day that’s a lot of driving. 😮
-
Got our tickets but the wife has come down with a cold
Have to see how it goes
Hoping to get there -
Can’t make it too many customers shouting at me, was trying to save up for an ex demo Mimaki JV3 at the show too, aww well, next year.

exactly what audrey said marcella… i am off on holiday later this year so thats gonna be enough for me for one year :lol1:

Looks like I cant go this year 😥 I was all set to go up until 10 mins ago, when a customer rang to say a print job Id done had gone pear shaped, aaaaaaaaah so Ive got to stay and reprint the whole job and mount it on boards as the deadline is tomorrow. Im really fed up now.
Is that a real horse you’re getting Dave or a car? -
honeslty Jayne… just go… customers can wait… they say its for tomorrow when it really just sit there for weeks.
-
I know I should do, but Ill have to see how the printing goes today 😥
-
quote Dave Rowland:customers can wait…
wow Dave that’s a hard statement, got to ask, are you an employee or Company owner/Director?
Here, the Customer comes first, they are the people who keep us in business. We (due to work commitments) have still to decide whether we are going or not.
Aiming on Thursday, but that could all change!
-
umm I wont be there this year i will try to get the ok from husband next year. might Call Nik if she was there and speak with u guys. im so jalousie we have a show here visual impact that i will go to on the 27Th of May on my Birthday. Wish i was there to meet u guys the solvent smells the same in every sign expo but you guys are special Nancy
-
Nancy, you’ve turned into a car!!!!!!!! A woman of many talents :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
-
why should a customer ring up and expect miracles chris… nah.. they can wait.
Yes nancy, no good looking like a car ya know.. post piccie! 😛 -
I know what you say Chris but it has to be within limits.
If a customer learns that you’ll drop everything just to keep his business, he will start to run your business and your life. I’m sure they have important things they don’t miss.
-
quote Chris Dowd:And the answer to my question Dave???
:lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:
Come on Dave answer Chris’s question!
I have just read Shane’s reply and do go along with that, I think after being in business for a while and knowing your customers you sort of know whats dead urgent and what they can wait another day for. In their opinion everything they want is of the upmost urgency.
But ultimately the customer is the one keeping you in business.
-
Well ask yourself this.. shape your business’s future by learning at signuk vs one customer. Depends on that customer I suppose.
With regards your question… i dont see i have to answer that. I like this annomyous site
-
It also depends on the situation, as this is a job that I did for them that has a couple of mistakes on it (my fault) and the deadline is tomorrow, then I feel that I should make every effort to sort it out for them. Its annoying though as the problem is a couple of dust specks under the laminate, frustrating as I didnt spot them!!!!!
-
quote Dave Rowland:With regards your question… i dont see i have to answer that. I like this annomyous site
You mysterious man Dave 😎
I too am going tomorrow to see how I can shape/grow my business,
although very busy theres nothing life or death, in a case like Jane’s
it would be difficult, the customers work has got to be done very pronto
and when theres only her to do it, I dont think she has an option.See you tomorrow at the bar Dave, if your good I might let you buy me a beer :lol1:
-
quote Dave Rowland:Well ask yourself this.. shape your business’s future by learning at signuk vs one customer.
We shape our businesses future day by day, reacting to the ever changing needs of the industry, not once a year at an industry exhibition.
With regard to my question, the answer is now clear!

That’s me out. Bloody customers! I find it impossible to turn work away because……well, you know.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good meet up at the bar. Someone give Jill a bloody good snogging from me. I was really looking forward to meeting her. Oh well. 😕
-
I’ll say hello to her for you Andy … but I ain’t snogging her….

I hope you all have a great time meeting up at the exhibition. Unfortunately I am not going this year, I was there a couple of years ago and met up with Rob, John Singh and a few others that were regulars here. I would have liked to have visited again this year but had left my options open thinking I would decide at the last minute if I had time I would go. However, I have concluded that Peter’s right – you have to plan something like this and make the commitment a few months in advance as there will always be too much work to do. If you commit to going it’s easy to then plan your work load around it. I wouldn’t cancel a holiday or even a dentists appointment just because some customer wanted a sign in a hurry (:)
Have a great time everyone and remember to post the pictures here 😀

BIG G pity you are not going this time as i wanted to make it up to you for my apparent ignorance of last year. (when i didn’t recognise you)

yep ypur right there dave………cause if i did see you tomorrow….you would have got a big SLAP!!! 😉

-
ok ok.. i give in… im sorry… i just feel that customers leave things to the last minute as you end up performing better for them… they also pretend that they need things done urgently when they dont (mistakes happen).. they also expect you to perform miracles like dry paint quickly… they may also expect a perfect well designed sign in no time at all, when they jotted down a logo/plan.
It just needs to be well planned if it is a big job.. not all customers are like that… just a hand full whine to make it like your problem when they have had weeks to plan ahead with us.

I’ve a really nice bottle of Lagavulin here 👿 😛

Was hoping to go wednesday, then thursday but far to busy.
Oh well maybe next year.
Perhaps the organisers ought to think of ending the show on a saturday or start on a sunday, I’m sure there are many sign people who just can’t get there on a weekday.
Could be an idea for a poll.
Have a good time those who get to sign uk.
Probably all digi printers and smelly ink anyway.
cheers Neil 😥

Hi
I think you’re right about the weekend. It would be far better if it went over Saturday & Sunday too.
I fully intended going today, but just had too much work to do.
Never mind. Its all much the same from one year to the next anyway !
If you read all the trade mags, you’re not really missing anything.
Cheryl 🙂

I can’t say Marek,
The person would get in trouble. I was upset but not his fault for some reason my details where on google but i asked him to take it off cos its personal. -
your brave nancy…if someone did that to me….(highly unlikely) (spin) i would definetly say it was there fault…..and i wouldnt go so easy on them…. 😕

I’ve had a call from a UKSB member from the UK too, had a lovely chat, made my day actually, but I assume he got my details off my www link that can be seen by UKSG members.
If the call was anything other than a friendly personal call, I’d be upset too Nancy. Not sure how you could get your details on google unless you’d made it public somewhere tho.
I had someone overhear a conversation about me the other day, and decided to google my name. Google came up with UKSB’s and some of my posts. He worked out I was queensland based (he is in sydney) and then google sign shops in qld with shane and drew in the search field.
Took him about 15 minutes to narrow it down to me.
He rang me with some gossip that let me nip something in the bud, and I was able to correct something that had been misinterpreted.
So I suppose if you are really keen, everyone can get googled to some point.
-
its cool now Shane no i don’t advertise yet i asked google to remove that info and especially my mobile number i would never put it up on google so people prank me all the time. or home number as well my kido would answer the phone. or home address so people come at me at night. its scary but i received an email from google and they took it off. 😉 im happy
-
Nobody rings me up for a chat 😥 except the guys in the Indian call centres, havent a clue where they get my number from 😮
-
quote wannousnancy:hi Jayne how r u? long time eh
You might want to ring her Nancy, she seems a bit upset 😉 😛

Hi Nancy, Im fine, not upset just a bit bored, having to work while the sun’s shining, also my hubby is away at the sign show all week working and I couldnt even get to go myself 😮 How are you?
-
you will be OK Jayne I’m OK I’m feeling down actually trying to do my book keeping stuff using myob but before I’m trying to do it hand and calculator i suck big time. I miss old Nancy Jayne i was more fun. Whats happening to me I’m gonna turn 24 soon and i feel like shit. 🙁
-
I wish I was 24!!!!!!! You’ve got no worries, try reversing those two numbers and adding 1, as for books I hate doing them, I always leave it to last minute and then have to spend hours trying to make evrything add up :lol1:

I hear ya Jayne. I’m 46 this year. At 24 I thought I had the worries of the world on my shoulders, I’d love that sort of pressure now. Nothing like the pressures I have now…
As far as my books go, I’ve never done them in truth. My father has done them for me for 30 years. Now he’s in hospital, and off work for a few months, I’ll have to sweet talk my sister, or my wife. They both do that sort of stuff everyday for a company that turns over $5m a month and has 300 staff. (My sister is my wifes boss) I can’t imagine my little company will be that hard for either of them…
… and before you say it… yes I am spoilt.. :lol1:

I totally agree I’m 46 this year Shane, I know that will shock you your thinking I only look about 28 tops. But when does the pressure ease (?)
As for book keeping I was like you Jayne, I’d get the VAT return in and do it all in one go, took a good few hours. Now days I have someone to do my books. godsend 🙂
Just one final thing: God your spoilt Shane (!) (!)
