Oh, oh, first big juob and it’s an arch….arggghhhh!!!
Hi,
Can anyone please tell he how to accurately measure an arch this is more than likely not an accurate half circle.
We ave been asked by the company we work for to procuce the vinyl graphics for some blank signage which already exists on the building.
The shape of the signage is two long panels with an arch in the middle around 40ft all in all. The arch is probrably around 5ft wide and 4ft high.
We have not yet accurately measured the signage as we have only just been told we can do it. As you can probably imagine we are bricking it, especially as we work for the company already…wooooo!!

If you are any good at measuring I think I would be inclined to photograph the building and then scale up the photo to actual size. Sounds a bit crude I know but you would be surprised how accurate this can be if a little time is taken. I now find myself doing this more and more as it is quick and easy and you can pick up annoying obsticles you may have missed on a site visit like odd bricks that stick out etc. You can practice a bit before you actually cut or print anything to ensure your sizes are OK.

Another method you can try, although I’d op for Martin’s method myself, is to get a big sheet of card or sacrificial correx and draw round the bugger. That way, you have an accurate template to work off. If you have a sheet of paper big enough, it’d work, but I’d imagine alot of flapping about 😕

Definately agree with dewi on this I’d use a template,at those measurements it’s nowhere near a half circle.
When building I’ve normally used H/board to get odd shapes in glass, worktops etc. A couple of tacks with a hot melt gun if you need to use more than 1 sheet.
Make sure your level when you start, I’d slap a temporary batten across the gap, screw it in, take the template and then refix the batten when you go back to fit the sign. This should ensure your lining up the same as your template.
