I currently am running an oki printer from tennants to produce plates and ibuy all my media, blank plates etc from them, a customer has called today and requested a set of show plates, 15" x 4" and 16" x 4.375" which is the standard number plate width, these are certainly unusual sizes and i have not got the equipment to make reduced sizes myself. I have called Tennants today and was told that they do not sell these sizes and cannot produce any for me. Does anyone know where i can get plates of these sizes made for me either blank or made up?

    thanks

    Paul,
the sizes sound right to be cut from a standard plate blank, "don’t work in inches" so just trim a blank up. Then adjust size of your design to match but print onto standard size film just make sure you line it up properly when you put it together. You should be able to cut the blanks with a stanley knife and smooth with a little sand paper worst way a jigsaw. i would let the man know the cost before you start cause it well off the standard track.

From memory, the perspex that Tennants suppy is adhesive? If so, I have always found that a band saw is the best tool to use as the blade only goes through the plate in one direction.

If using a jigsaw or similar, the blade lifts the backing away from the perspex on the upstroke causing a lot of fragments to get stuck in the adhesive.

I hope that makes sense :lol1:

We cut plates to all sizes using a table saw. If you cut face down then this does not cause a problem with the glue. We charge the customer £15 for a custom size plate. But you can cut as sggested with a stanly knife, just score the plastic a few times (again from the back) using a ruler on the glue side and then snap over the edge of the bench, it is quit easy !
