  • (Newbie) Questions about vinyl cut stickers…

    Hi all,
    I’m brand new to all this, so please bear with me. 🙂
    I’m not in business, nor do I want to be in business. But I do like making things, and I like new hobbies. On that note, I have been looking at making vinyl cut stickers and probably also vinyl cut shirt transfers. The problem is I can’t find any step-by-step guides for doing this or what good equipment might be. I have looked at the Roland Sticka series, but I don’t know if I might need something bigger then 15".
    So, here are my most likely silly questions:
    1. Is the vinyl that goes into the machines already sticky on one side?
    2. Is transfer tape the layer you put on top of the cut vinyl?
    3. What would a good setup for a beginner like me be? (less expensive the better, maybe $500-600 range)
    4. What else should I know before I start?

    Thanks for the help,
    ed.

    Hi mate,

    the answers to your questions are;

    1. yes – comes in calendared or cast.
    2. yes – sometimes called application tape. Comes in low, medium and hi tack. The smaller the decals/letters, the higher the tack should be.
    3. The sticka is the perfect machine for a hobby type situation like yours seems to be. Once that is mastered, you can progress to a bigger machine if you wish, but the sticka software (here anyway) is designed for someone with no knowledge of what to do – a real beginner.
    4. once you have mastered that, you’ll have plenty of questions I’m sure.

    Thanks Shane. I’ll take a closer look at the Sticka series then.
    Cheers,
