Well now that SignUK is over and done with has anyone ventured into anything new??

Strangely enough we ended up deciding on an embroidery machine, just waiting till the workshop is up and running before getting "another" bit of equipment

No new ventures for me. I’ve got enough on my plate as it is.

Although, as coincidence would have it, I picked up some embroidery machine brochures for my wife, who is looking for a change of direction.

Much closer to our JV3 now than ever, just need to sort out the space(though this is in hand) and finalise minor details like the cost etc 😀

good for you John (and mrs john!), i hope it goes well,

i didn’t decide as such on anything, but i’m more unsure as a result ! i want to get into subli stuff, i’m happy for now to sub it out, but i have so many idea’s for ways to use it, that subbing will become prohibitive / uneconomic when i want to make samples etc to go along with my ideas, just a case of getting the dosh together (bye bye mx5 me thinks 🙁 )

now though, the question is "do i go subli inkjet ? or laser ? both have pro’s and con’s, laser i cheaper to buy, print, and can go on anything, subli is more expensive to buy, print, and is limited to coated products, but will do better t-shirt printing etc,

    hmmm 😕

i sold my honda vfr in 87 to buy a cutter some times you have to do it

but buying a heat press to test the water and do cut stuff then see about subi.

target seem to be ok to buy from true or false

What’s the setup cost / learning curve like on embroidery?

I get asked for it a lot.

And how long does it take to do a shirt for example?

    Cheers

I bought a heat press from revolution and its performed for 18 months faultlessly and printed 1000s of items, its a thermo press swinger 40x50cm by the way, couldn’t recommend it highly enough,

I think he meant buy a press as you already have a cutter, this way you can see how flex/flock stuff goes before jumping in and buying sublimation gear.

If you do go into sublimation, get one of the bulk feed systems from ebay as they are a fraction of the price for the exact same item, and the inks from one of the suppliers trying to do a "package" that consists of the ink a printer and the feed system for hundreds of ££££, I have seen an
Epson 1290 with feed and ink for almost £700 which when bought separately would cost you about £500, anything you need to know just ask as we’ve made all the mistakes involving sublimation and theres plenty of them to make.

I’m currently using a 1290, with R200 as backup but as the 1290 are in short supply I’m going to have to use my R1800 next.
It will give better results anyway and then I can use that excuse to buy a 2400 for my photography :lol1:

I bought an epson 1290 with bulk ink after seeing sublimation at Sign uk a couple of years ago. I can’t stand the process of it all, i still have all the gear and plenty of consumables and would be happy to chuck it all on the skip and take a big loss on it, as long as i don’t have to look at it ever again.
Too much time & waste is invovledfor the amount of return you get.

P.S you cant dye sub Dibond.
Ended up today with a bit of plastic coated aluminium with black goo oozing out of the sides.
Ah well I try to dye sub anything that looks remotely plastic coated.

think its a still mag digital 40 x50 and digital pressure readout, it still has a big nut to adjust the pressure but at least i know what is medium pressure now else i wouldn’t have a clue.
love this new target premium material.

I had a 1290 with a bulk feed system but I was never happy with the results that I was getting, but that might have been down to getting it set up fully without any support from the person i get it from…… ended up giving it away to a mate along with loads of materials.

I think i might just sub out the work from now on if someone asks rather than just put them off, Peter Mindham said about subbing to him but that was after a few bottles of wine so I can’t remember everything about that convo lol :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: Can you Peter? lol

Peter will sort you out I’m sure, we had a good chat about dye sub today in the shop.
I’m stuck here doing 40 dye sub place mats at ten to 7 😥

Yes Peter those ones for that woman that came in while you were here about 6 hours ago, only just managed to start printing them onto the release paper 😕 Think Ill press those in the morning
And still weeding those tree surgery designs too, hoping to get home sometime today tho.

Incidentally John, I use a 1290 with bulk feed and have had nothing but excellent results once all the problems got ironed out, but there were a few in the beginning for sure.
I stuck at it though and after several phone calls, some replacement ink, freeing of trapped air, and several flushes I now have problem free dye sub printing, there are hitches sure but its worth sticking at.
Theres decent money in it if it all goes smoothly, the right release paper plays a massive part in it also.

I tried to phone them and get it sorted but felt they were shugging there shoulders at the other end

Was it a colour problem, or something else like mottling or blurry pics etc?

colour problem wasn’t the word for it, I tried cleaning the pipes but still no good. was kinda blurry aswell but mostly a colour problem. As I said I got that fed up that I gave it all to a mate rather than throw it in the bin

Hi Steve I knew we should have left earlier. In hindsight, I should have rolled my sleeves up and done the job for you while you were serving all the customers! Bit like Piccadilly Circus at times :lol1:

Thanks again for the hospitality today. Lots of things to consider now so little sleep tonight as I lay in bed. 😕

Had a nice run down the coast (wet) and then back to Torbay so a good day.

Talk soon, Cheers Peter and Karen.

P.S. The coffee will keep me awake anyway 😮 !!

P.P.S. Sorry to steal the thread 😥

It could have been due to profiling, and also which program was used, I use photoshop with a specific dye sub profile for the 1290 and the brand of ink I use. with print setup to no colour correction before I had that it was a losing battle as far as colour was concerned, too much ink layed down not enough etc, this is the thing that puts most people off I think.
