  • New printer, 1 nozzle gone already should i be concerned?

Hi all, I purchased my new mutoh eco solvent Jan 2024, so its 1.5 years old now.

Last month i noticed 1 nozzle on the magenta was continuously missing. I have done many cleans, and head soaks but it looks like it is gone for ever.

Now, the printing quality has not been affected but in my head i have a few questions –

“Isn’t this a bit early to be losing nozzles?”

“If one has gone already then surely in another year more will have gone”

“i was hoping to get 10+ years out of this expensive machine”

Now i spoke to a fellow printer owner and his opinion was not too worry too much. I haven’t spoken to a mutoh salesman or engineer yet because i already know their attitude and answers –

    “do a head soak”

“its only 1 nozzle it doesn’t matter”

So whats your thoughts, is this normal timescale and nothing to worry about?

I wouldn’t worry, provided it’s not impacting the print quality.

I’m not sure on Mutoh as I’ve never owned on, but you may be able map the nozzle, so the head doesn’t use it. Quite a handy function, my old Seiko had that ability.

I had murders with print quality on my Roland, that turned out to be a nozzle and some minor deflections, nothing that looked especially problematic, but for some reason on the green head it took very little to ruin the print quality.
