  • New law on Waste Material (Scotland)

Posted by Phill Fenton on 19 April 2013 at 13:28

As from 1st January 2014 all Businesses in Scotland will be required by law to present metal, plastic, glass, paper and card separately for collection.

So what do we do with Aluminium composite waste material. Does this go in the metal bin or the plastic bin?

And vinyl backing paper – I always thought this was non recyclable – won’t it f"ck up the recycling process when it gets mixed in with all the other paper?

I’m inclined to use a bit of common sense and not present these material for recycling – but by doing so I will be breaking the law 😕

I was told that backing paper couldn’t be recycled because of the silicon used but that was a few years ago so may have changed. There will have to be a landfill option in there as well as not all the waste you produce will be recyclable.

    Phil
we use a Waste Management Company who supplies the one bin and we give them a rough list but not a definitive one of the type of materials that we dispose of. They then empty the bin in there truck which gets emptied at there waste sorting depot where everything that can be recycled gets recycled. Do you have the local council empty your bins if so perhaps its time to go to a private contractor

We use a well known national company who quoted us £12 per week to empty a big wheelie bin or the same bin with recycle only products is £4 per empty and they happily take pretty much everything including the paper backing sheets but knowing how bad their customer service is I doubt anyone even bothered to check if it should be in there or not but either way 12 months and never had any complaints about what goes in there and saved a fortune compared to normal waste.
