new forum index. opinions please?
Posted by Robert Lambie on 9 January 2004 at 19:51As some may have already noticed I have been working on various areas of the site. Mostly cosmetic & forum work for now though.
I am far from complete but thought I would ask opinions on my progress for the forum index page, after all its all you guys that have to use it.. so im all ears.
Like I said, its still got a bit to go but you can see were I am heading.
Does this appear better to navigate than just a list of text links (?)
Is it more appealing to you (?)
Please let me know if you think it is mince or better π πhttp://www.uksignboards.com/index.php?nav_0=1
i am hoping that including links to the forum rules & how to use the forum
right below each forum image may help understand how the forum shoud ne used. (even though they are not complete π )many many thanks if anyone can suggest or give their opinion. π

I like most of the new nav bars, as John pointed out, alot more colourful. But (there’s always a but eh! π ) I think the one for the say hello forum, and the one for general discussion forum are a little less professional looking than the others. The Links forum nav bar is perfect imho, the Quotes forum, again nice one. Just those first two. The problem is I can not think of images that would fit those bars, so that takes this away from constructive critisism because I can’t offer anything constructive! π Should I shut up now? π π
(-) Maybe if the images were more in the style of the Demo forum graphic, ie in the way the graphic has been applied to the nav bar? π Just a thought π

Thanks for the comments guys.
Dewi, I hear what your saying mate & I agree. But like you im a little stuck on
What will be as effective in replacing them.
Obviously I have not finished the index. I started doing them one by one, but then thought I need to see how they work together on the site. So I quickly loaded up the general idea to what I plan & then thought ide ask for opinions.
I will complete loading them all by Sunday evening then go back to the ones that may not be as affective.
Any other suggestions & ideas are welcome⦠-
How about something along these lines for the βSay Helloβ

Hiya
For my two pennies-worth.
I agree with Dewi, I’m not fussed on the Hello and the General Discussion images.
π₯The picture on the Hello bar is a bit too like a toothpaste ad
π‘
and I hate dentists!
(:)
Not sure about Alan’s suggestion either, although it’s an improvement in my view. The picture on the General Discussion bar doesn’t look quite right either, what about an image with some humour, like that image you did Rob at New Year with an “edited” old photo. Perhaps just a bit of it.

Blimey, I like the new ones! π Personal favourite is ‘Sign Fabrication’ one, great idea. ‘Software/Cutters’ also very inkeeping, ‘Show Us Your Stuff’ again, inkeeping and looks smart.
The ‘Say Hello’ forum nav bar is still niggling me though π Its just that its one of the first things you see when you enter the forums and as Alan said, toothpaste advert π Bit of a wierd one, but along the lines of the ole Lionel Richie song, you could use a person holding a phone with a big cheesy grin? π Or, exactly what it says on the tin, a graphic of a yellow post-it note with ‘hello’ scrawled on it? π Just some ideas.
Quickie scrawl…

Idea just sprang to mind, ‘Good, Bad & Funny’ forum, you could use an angel, a devil and a clown arranged on the nav bar! π

you need more sleep mate π πthanks for yours also alan.. i found one simular to yours but i couldnt get it to fit good on the size of bar we have.. π

Rob,
The new images all look great to me – except the “Hello” one which I hate π‘ don’t know why, but I cant help keep looking at it and cringing !
I quite like alans above and Dewi’s is better than “the mouth” too – please change it soon π

Nigel, I think its the pearly white smile that does it. You just know this guy got all the ladies crowding him on a Friday night down the Roxie, and no doubt is now married to an ex-supermodel and driving a Porsche! π Not to mention the 2.4 kids, the 4 bed detached house and the dog called Beagly! Β£120k a year for twiddling his thumbs, a Bentley for the weekends in the country and a small but ample cruiser moored on Lake Windermere…. you get the idea π And this perfect guy still finds the time to do adverts for toothpaste! (:) πΏ Don’t you just love capitalism π
Such is life π₯
Cheers, Dewi

Going in the right direction
Good work Rob π
