Need to tweak this for garment printing
Posted by Jason Middleton on 1 November 2010 at 18:12Can somebody explain how I can thicken up the fishing line and rod on this image to enable me to cut it out and put on a polo shirt.
I was able to select and put an outline around it but it also went around the man, fish and the line underneath the wording and I only want to thicken the rod & line only.
Thanks in advance
Jase

You need to break up the curve, than cutout needed part in corel, then apply outline, then blend it all together again.
Cant remember corel terminology right now – I switched to illustrator like, 10 years ago, but this is general workflow. If You have Adobe illustrator, You shoult draw a cutting line where You want to split this image, then choose object>path>divide object below, then select the part You need to be thicker and choose object>path>offset and enter how thicker U need it. Select all, and use pathfinder to blend objects together (add button).
And that’s it. -
lol Peter, just good timing!
as for fish… It’s highly likely that I do! I barely get out these days, hopefully do a bit more when the winter cod arrive but, what with the rugby on sat and sunday for me and the kids respectively, and a myriad of clubs and training during the week, time is hard to find!
Jason,
editing the nodes is / was the only way -using the node editing ‘shape tool’, 2nd down on left-, as the whole lot had been welded, rather than combined (as i would have done it on that logo) it could not "break curve apart" enough to make it any easier, the only way to do it was to remove a lot of the un-necessary nodes and adjust the lines.
i’ve re-attached the artwork, the yellow is the original, you can overlay this to see what i’ve done and re-edit the nodes as you see fit.
the problem is that you cannot go too thick, fishing rods and, particularly the line, are generally light weight and thin, thus they cannot be thickened too much or it’ll look like a bent scaffold pole and a rope!
Hugh
ps, you’ll be surprised how thin the cutter is able to cut thin lines, use a stick backed garment film and it’s even easier.

Superb, thanks very much, I spent most of last night trying to do this without any joy, I owe you Hugh.
I know my cutter would have no problem cutting I was concerned about how well it would stick onto the garment.
thanks again

looking at one of my own hoodies hanging in the corner, I can confirm that extremely fine slivers of garment film -as fine as less than a smidgeon of a mm- still stick like the proverbial!
