  • Need help sourcing a brush aluminium effect board.

    Hi folks…
i have a job to do that requires brushed aluminum effect composite board.
initially i was going to use brushed effect skybond or any composite for that matter, but has to be thin… skybond only comes in 3mm and this has to wrap around a large round reception desk. so 3mm will not be flexible enough… we thought on the same effect in vinyl, but because we are removing flat cut letters from the desk i recon the marks of the old letter holes will show through the vinyl.
i can get it in stainless steel but it soils too easy with finger marks and the like. its heavy and i want to fit this with a double sided tape, if i can, to help hide fixings. i recon stainless will just spring open or come away due to weight.

    anyone any suggestions, alternatives?

thanks in advance for any replies/help. much appreciated…

What about laminating vinyl onto something a bit more flexible?

good idea mate, never thought about that… might be an option.
is the brushed aluminum effect vinyl convincing? by that i mean look real?

    Hi Rob

can you not get a local metalwork company to put the sheet through rollers to curve if for you. It will look better than the vinyl version and last longer.

    Kind regards

ROB use 2mm Buttler Dibond, ( brushed ali) i have bent a 2500mm along it’s lenght around a 400mm radius before. no problem,

Might need someone bigger than you to hold it though :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

engraving laminate will work. Depends how big though, as it usually comes in smaller sheet.

Andys idea is a good one tho, on 2mm pvc should be a good option.

Yes, sheets are quite small 2′ x 4′ as standard however Suregrave have some new stuff in this year and may be able to do it in larger sections

Two options that I’ve used in the past on similar projects

Vinyl – Metamark do a Brushed Aluminium vinyl (ref. MM-SBA) that looks very realistic.

And work top laminate, just over a mill thick and great for interior displays and exhibitions…try Deralam Laminates Ltd who will send a sample for you to check out
