First of all many many thanks to every one who gave me some good advice in my last topic.
Ive decided to cut my losses and sell the ENCAD 750 so I can get a deposit for the roland sp 300 cut and print.
Does anyone know the best place to advertise it. I’ve put it on ebay, but don’t really know where else to put it. I’ve tried to trade it in but no takers.
wonder why? lol if I don’t laugh I’ll cry!!!!!
    cheers

Dominic, you could advertise it on here, but you would need to have the apropriate membership, no guarantee you would find a buyer, but maybe worth a shot?

when I went to tech college about 10years ago they use to have one of these printers. I think at the time it was a head of its time but just has not moved on. I think if you put uv inks in it and you and learn to laminate by hand untill you can aford a laminator you will do well. If you go looking for another machine I would be looking into the mimaki JV3. You will find they are cheaper then the Roland but you need to learn how to run these machines you cant just jump into it. if you dont have alot of work for one dont run it on full solvent to start.

Sorry Luke, never knew there was an alternative, how do the costs compare and what advantages do the Lyson inks have?

    Hello Peter,

Well my costs, £45 for 440mil, advantage if left turned off for 2-3weeks the heads can recover with abit of flush & clean over a couple of days other wise keep it turned on and no problem. Also longer head life.

Luke I only pay £10 quid more for my inks, and if my machine was turned of for more than a couple of days, (weekends)I would start to think if I really needed it. your heads will indeed last longer if not used…

Peter. Is that 3rd Party or OEM Ink? Does it ‘corrupt’ the warranty?

Owen, my machine is out of warranty, I now use third party inks. I have a maintenance contract to cover repairs

I was told when my machine was installed the heads should last upto 3 years with these inks. I dont put so much printing throught the machine but also I do alot of other signage work that dose not require the printer. Long turm Im looking to get it running more but for time being Im happy to use a ink that dose not require lots of maintence.

What I know about inks is if you are paying £10 for a 1ltr? chances are the quality of this will not be so good then you will get heads dropping out, wasted media, ink, colour vary and wasted time plus you will need to replace heads sooner and your prints wont last so long out side.

I might be wrong but this is also something that Im keen to look into.

    Luke
When your machine was installed, was it under a Hybrid warranty?
2 years is their standard, and I wasnt aware they gave an ink alternative other than their own?

Perhaps I have missed something here, I would be grateful if you shed some more light on this?

    Hello Peter,

I bought my machine from quality print services. They advised me to run these inks, plus they sell them to me and I dont have any form of a contract. I think when I bought this second hand it had a 6 month contract but I have had no problems with it. Also they gave me the profiles for these inks.

I now use xx inks, I have never frowned upon third party, just that I have always said if you expect to have a warranty then you should keep to the recomendations, put sh1t oil in your car and mercedes will have a valid argument for declining a warranty claim

    😀

John you raised a good point about a topic for what inks?. Also Peter I would like to know how these inks work for you and what they are called.

You might be able to fill us in on this.

    Peter

Ok understood. Now that interests me as currently we are running on OEM inks and if you can get a main contract to cover other inks then that’s a good start down the road.

Would it be possible to illuminate? I echo John ref: questions but its a very interesting topic!
