  • My Versacamm is making a clicking noise..

Hi all, im sure this subject has been discussed before but here goes.

We run a Versacamm sp300 and it is making a clicking noise when the print head travels across the print area.

Now i know what it is cos we have had the problem before, it was the white ribbon cable that runs along the top and it seems like as the head is moving the cable is trying to roll up but then springs out again causing a clicking noise.

We did previously have the ribbon changed but can anyone suggest a way inwhich we can stop it before it gets to the point where the cable has to replaced again??

    Any help or advice appreciated

    Cheers
    Stephen

If you’ve recently had a new stip fitted, all it’s doing is finding where the cover is catching and at these points, will wear away the cover and then the clicking will desist. You will have problems if it starts clucking.

Hi, no its a little while since we had it replaced..it is starting to do exactly what it did before, it clicks for a while then it gets itself trapped while its trying to straighten itself out, then it jams…

Order a new cable and cover in now and have it ready 🙁

    That’s all I can suggest 😕

stepen my guess is that the cable is not square trying to roll slightly side ways then clicking against the side as it un-rolls.
don’t know about yours but they usually are stuck down one end and the cable should lay dead flat

I’ve had the problem twice on my machine and on both occasions the cable had to be changed, the current one now seems to run perfectly.

i’ve had the same problem with my sp300v. my advice is when it starts clicking get it changed. if it gets caught then it can cause all sorts of problems with the print head etc.
I’m now on my 4th cable in 2 years and apparantly according to the Roland tech support guy its most common on the sp300v.
