Did this van a while ago but never got round to uploading pics.

Hiya Matthew.
I think you’ve filled the panels a bit much. Should’ve left a bit more empty space around the graphics.
Otherwise, not much wrong with it at all. A good first van.
Don’t let Jill see the "Tel" though. 😀

Yep I agree with John, but I’m sure you were benig pressurised by the customer.
I read that as SUPER B, is that right? If it’s superb then the kerning on the B is a little out, more so on the back.
But a smart looking van all the same. 😀 -
Matthew, have to agree with John more space needed but over all a very good first attempt

I read the name as SUPER B
You need to watch the kerning with some styles.
As John said you need some white space around the bulk of the side and rear. -
Yeah the customer wanted all the text on he came to me with a business card and said i want this all on my van lol.
If i closed the kerning in on the RB it would of blended into each other.

I agree with John about the copy.
Is the name SUPER B or SUPERB, if the latter then I would have kerned the letters and closed the gap down between the ‘R’ and ‘B’ and welded them together.
Try and get into the habit of kerning, you should aim for the negative space between each letter to look balanced. I admit I don’t do it all the time but on the main copy it’s a good idea.
But if it’s SUPER B then ignore what I just said.

Nothing wrong with that Matthew. We do it all the time. Some letter pairs can offer a challenge.

you could also open up the kerning on the other letters to over come it, if you didn’t want to weld.

The R B bugs me even more than the Tel and especially the Mob.
Hopefully you will learn along the way not to cram every last possible thing onto every panel.
Even if the customer wants it.

its one of those words, no matter how you kern it, people read differently.
The door gap doesnt help, it splits the r & b so even welding is not the solution

Think it looks OK, for me just a bit too much information to read quickly. All plumbers do the same type of things, so maybe people already know a lot of the services.
I know the customer can push for all the bullet points, but I always try to keep things very simple as most of the target audience are not always the sharpest tools in the shed.
Plumber and a phone number I say!

I don’t think any of us like "tel", but Jill is a little more sensitive than most! 😀
The thing is that it is entirely superfluous, so what’s the point of putting it in front of what is obviously a telephone number.
Sometimes the customer insists, but i always ask them if their customers are so stupid that they wouldn’t recognise a telephone number when they saw one. Only once have I had the reply, "well, yes they are". 😀
My personal gripe is a long list of contact details. Phone number, fax number, mobile number, web addy, email addy, and so on. To me that just looks, a) cr@p, b) unprofessional, and c) like they’re desperate. I reckon phone number and web addy is more than enough

I have also not liked the tel etc… it’s obvious that its a phone number but customers quite often want it… and all the rest as you say…
My philosophy (stolen from others) is Less is More which makes sense and looks far better. Cheers 😀

I know what most people say about the "TEL or MOB" thing but I don’t agree, I think that most of the time its needed to fill the space or else the number on its own is too short. Also its a tradition thing, its always been done that way.

It may be a trend, but I’ve never liked it.
Some fonts aren’t too bad, but there’s a lot out there with different heights for letters and numbers. Helvetica and Myriad are a couple of examples. Now there may be some typographical reason for that, steeped in the mists of time, but to me they just look horrible with Tel or Fax in front of the number.

There are obvious rules in design that if not followed will make any layout look wrong………….something like Tel or Fax before a number is just personal taste I would say

Surely design is all about ‘trends’ though? You can’t be subjective and be a good designer, it’s a craft you apply to a particular brief, doesn’t matter if you like it or not imo. That philosophy and gallons of strong coffee helps me get through the day anyways 😀

hmm…not sure on that one Harry……I personally think the swirly foliage thing has been done to death now…..It looked great when it first came out but it’s everywhere now
I suppose where I’m coming from is that the TEL, MOB thing is just a victim of fashion…..some people think it looks old fashioned but I don’t think anybody can say it actually looks wrong…(If done correctly as John C points out of course) 🙂

I agree with Glenn ……… it’s not wrong. Personally I don’t like it, but it’s not wrong.
It’s a matter of personal taste like many other aspects of our job, some people like some fonts that some of us abhor! But it doesn’t make it wrong to use it. 😉 -
