Hi guys. Recently purchased my first printer. Mutoh 1614.
Im having some issues with the vinyl crinkling when print and causing head strikes.

It is mainly towards the end of the print. Im assuming it is heat related? Im using recommended settings from previous owner but he did use ritrama.

Media im using is mpi2000. Heat settings, pre 36. Platen 37. After 45.

Would be helpful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Is the media in the same room as the printer? We’ve had cockling issues with Avery media in the past even when the media is stored in the same room as the printer. We swapped to Metamark years ago and no longer have this issue. Your temps look OK.

Hi, yes media is in the same room. Conditions should be fine as I work from one end of my house so temp is consistent.

Would lowering the heats to 30 be an option to help?

We run our Mimaki printers at 30 pre / 33 print / 47 post, so you could try. My feeling is that it’s the backing sheet on the Avery, which in my experience can be prone to cockling, hence the reason we swapped to Metamark.

Ok thanks for your input. I will try out some new heat combinations. Changing to metamark is not an option atm. Just had a new log and matching laminate arrive.

Unravel the roll a little once it’s in. I find this helps. Also found warmer the better. I just put the heating back on timer last week. It’s turning chilly up here.

It was actually the last few metres on the roll so i dont think this was the problem.

Its inhouse (literally) so wifey likes a nice steady 19c. Temperature shouldnt be a problem.

I ran a mutoh 1604 on avery vinyl for 7 years in an office within my house

Only time I ever had this issue was when I left the window open over night or when i left the media leaver loaded whilst not using the printer for a while

    Temps look ok
