Moving a Versacamm
Posted by Nick Monir on 30 April 2010 at 19:16Hi Folks,
We’re moving office in the coming week and I’m thinking about how we’re going to move the Versacamm without damaging it. Can anyone give me some info on how to do this? It isn’t going far (maybe 10 mins).
Nick.

just turn it off, and move it,
as long as you keep it fairly level I cant see a problem for a 10minute move.
but give roland a ring, they are the best people to advisePeter

I’ve done it several times…. keep it level and it will be fine
I took the carts out once and ended up having to pull the ink through the tube which was a nightmare so just keep the carts in and keep it level

Rolands instructions on moving versacamm are 1) insert empty cartridges 2) secure carriage with bracket supplied with machine 3) clip the drain pipe 4) remove drain bottle and replace with cap supplied.

you should have a head lock bracket to fit. this stops the head from moving about on the capping stations, which when powered down is the only thing keeping the head still.
vibration is the thing to avoid, carry not roll over even slightly rough surface.

I’d suggest doing that if moving a longer distance or longer time but I think that it’s overkill for a little move

Steve’s instructions take less then 5 minutes to do. Don’t see how its overkill.
Also when moving keep the machine horizontal don’t try and tilt it where possible. You still have ink in your lines.

Thanks for the help, tomorrow is the day and I can’t see it far enough! I checked for empty cartridges and we only have two. We need to remove the carts to get the printer out of the room……. so my plan is to;
1) remove the carts and push out into the workshop space
2) replace the carts, power up again and let it go through a clean
3) with the carts still in put it in the back of the van (carefully)
4) take out the carts again at the new place to get it into it’s final position
5) stick the carts back in, quick clean and we’ll be back in action!I’ve got the wee head locking device.
Can anyone see any potential problems with this?
Nick.

When we moved to the new premises last year, I also did not prepare my SP540.
We had to carry it up a (narrow) flight of stairs to the 1st floor print room.
Huge mistake!! It made a mess of the inside of the printer – ink eveywhere!! Fortunately it did not damage any delicate bits, but I had to partially strip, clean, and go through the whole "replace ink" sequence.
If you have to tilt the printer to get it on / off the moving van, you could be in trouble. Follow Roland’s instructions to the letter!! I did not, and was lucky to get away with a few tense moments, and a bit of ink wasted. (and a very dirty printer inside!)

The instructions I posted are the instructions for an exhibitor the instructions for general transporting of machine were a bit more (I thought overkill but maybe not) they include flushing all ink from lines and head.
