  • Mounting onto board

Posted by Cheryl Tissington on 17 November 2006 at 15:05

    Hi,
can anyone suggest a lightweight/ cardboard/ fibre type material that I can mount printed posters onto please.

I’ve got to produce about 50 large posters for a travel company, but they need to be rigid.

I can’t print directly onto the thin board, so I will have to print onto vinyl and cover.

    I’ve got the versacamm – I don’t think I can print directly onto board ??? 😕

The name of the board would be great then I know where to start.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Cheryl 🙂

    Hi Cheryl

We sometimes order sheets of "Doeflex Polypro" from Europoint for mounting prints/vinyl onto. It’s 0.5mm thick plastic sheet in loads of different colours. If we install window wire and pocket systems with A2 pockets then for inserts we’ll mount prints onto this stuff to stop them ‘sagging’. Depends how rigid you want them to be.

    Thanks Macky,
I’ll take a look. I’ve just opened an account with them.

I’m not sure of the name, but It might be Foamcore. Cardboard/lightweightfoamystuff/cardboard. I used that once.

    Thanks Andy.

Europoint stock a board called "foam-x"

It’s apparently very lightweight. I’ve just ordered 25 sheets of 700mm x1000mm to give it a try.

Cheryl, can I be nosy & ask what you are using to mount onto the foamex?

I’ve been using spray adhesive as my laminator is too small (25", 1" core) for a roll of mount film but I’m concerned that the result won’t be as permanent.

    Cheers,

    James,
I print onto gloss vinyl and put directly onto the boards. The finish is nice and shiney.

That way, I don’t need to use an additional adhesive.

I don’t bother to laminate either as they are only display posters…….I don’t want them to last forever ! 😉

    Cheers,
    Cheryl 🙂

Yeah, I think I need to get my thinking straight.

I’m using an HP with UV inks so thought I needed to laminate but maybe I need to try to print onto something like that & get rid of my extra costs of laminate etc.

This is a big learning curve!

    Cheers,

    J
