Motorcycle Outlines
Posted by JonnyAnnett on 3 October 2007 at 15:29Hi All,
I know that Impact do the vehicle outlines for cars, trucks, buses, vans etc. but I can’t find anyone that does outline for motorcycles.
I know I could go and take a photo, but I think that outlines look a lot more professional and I may not always be able to get photos etc.
Cheers

If you have a search through the boards, you will see that quite a few other people have wanted motorcycle outlines. If I remember rightly, Brian at Impact who produce what I feel are the best vehicle outlines, felt that there wasn’t enough of a demand. I’m quite sure that if there was a market for it then Impact would put time and money into it.

I don’t think a 2D drawing would be of much use as far as Motorcycles are concerned. You could not really use it to produce graphics for the Tank, Fairing etc. It’s not really like a Van or a Car where there are flat panels for graphics to be applied.
In answer to your question I am pretty sure you are looking for something that does not really exist. I know DAL in Canada have a very small range of outlines. I think they are just Harley/Police Motorcycles etc. No Japanese/Italian Sports bikes as far as I am aware.

Cheers Dave, some of the stuff on there should do the job.
Brian, It’s not for the sizes etc, that would be pointless. I would still measure up the vehicle (even if it was a car etc.) even when I would use a template, just to be sure on the sizes. It’s more so I can roughly show the customer as I’ve a lot of demand for bike stuff.
Not to worry, I’ll hopefully find something.

Good luck Jonny! as I said I think you are searching for something that does not exist.

I’ve got one!!!!!!
Guess what? Yes, it’s a GL1800 GoldWing. 😀
Let me know if you need it and I’ll look it out when I get to work in the morning.

Johnny if you just want to show concepts can’t you use jpeg images of a side shot of a bike and put your artwork over the top? That’s what we do with cars we don’t have the outlines for usually new models. Example today I had to do the Jeep Wrangler unlimited and we’ve only got the outline for the normal Wrangler at the moment.

Most of the work we do is for bikes – the problem you will find is that the sides aren’t flattish panels like you get on a car or van, which are normally fairly easy to mock up artwork to.
If you look at a sports bike, the actual shape of the fairings is very different from a straight on side shot, so if you make your artwork to fit a side on shot, then it wont fit the actual panels – the same with seat units which are a complete pain.
