i dont know F1, but i have been involved BTCC here in UK. I suspect each team has their own preference of a person.

A friend of mine had a job offer with Mclaren to spray their cars. He is a top notch sprayer. But after a few days of being told what to do and then standing up to them and said that he was hired to spray “Finish” the cars not just to spray undercoats, he was told in no uncertain fashion that “there were no prima doners” in the team and to do what he was told. So in a similar fashion he told them where to stick their sprayguns. The graphics are all done inhouse.

F1 is probably no different to the other catagories.
I used to do a lot of work for a few race teams in V8Supercar, Porche Cup, and other categories, most racing at the Gold Coast Indy. I even had the job to do repairs for the KMart Racing Indy Cars and a couple of others from the States while they were here.
UNfortunately, by the time teams get to the sign guy they have run out of money. Most of the big teams now have their own sign shops inhouse.
The job looks like it would be prestigous, but working under pressure, around mechanics, within stupid deadlines, at odd hours of the night and day, and then having to argue about pricing with every account… I am pleasd to see the back of it in truth. I have been ripped off more times than I’ll care to admit.
Most of the wanna be’s think you should do it for nothing. It is good for the ego at first, but when you finally wake up, you realise you can earn better money doing other things.
Cheers

Sod the signs, I want one of those pit lane helmets they had for Red Bull, it made the race seem much more interesting!
