    Hi All,

I’ve got a customer who wants me to replace some of his missing letters on his shopfront sign. the letters are chrome (mirror finish) with locators on the back.

I have never installed anything like this before, however I have had one supplier of routed letters say that you cant do mirrored letters as they warp and come off. is this true??

I can’t see how whether being a mirror or white finish can make a difference. after all, it is at least 3mm thick.

also I have heard that the back of the letters should be sandded down and pinkgrip or similar should be used to stick the letters on. is that right??

thanx in advance for you help
    🙂

Mirror acrylic can be used with locators but you do need to use a certain adhesive to bond them to the acrylic without damaging the mirror film. Sorry don’t know which adhesive it is or who does the letters as I haven’t done a job like that for a long time.

I wouldn’t bother just sticking them to the facia with some sort of adhesive, don’t know if pinkgrip would be suitable but if you are going to do that then there seems little point in having acrylic letters to start with.

    Thanx for your reply martin,

these arnt acrylic letters but composite like hoarding or diabond. the mirror finish is on the front and will be sticking locators with pinkgrip on the back.

    thanx again! 🙂

Personally I would buy some proper adhesive to bond the locators to the back of the letters More expensive yes but less liely to fail.

I can’t see mirror Composite warping, it’s reflective so shouldn’t get hot.
If it was black then yes it would get hot in direct sunlight.

As for gluing the locator’s on the back consult the supplier, they usually stock suitable glues for their locator’s and various materials.

I wouldn’t use pinkgrip, it’s probably not UV resistant and you don’t want the letters falling off onto someones head.
