Metal sign Machine – any help please?
Posted by Liz on 16 July 2006 at 09:21Hi everyone,
Baaically am looking for a machine so I cam make traditional metal signs etc. I have been sercahing the net, and this site but to no avail 🙁 Maybe I am searching for the wrong thing!
I understand they are some sort of press with rollers?
If anybody could shed some light, and give me an idea as to a manufacturer etc, it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanceLiz 🙂

Hi, many thanks for your replies.
I had in my head of a manual machine to be honest. I wass under the impression that you get the metal plate, place the letters underneath and then put through the roller to produce the pressed plate?
Not sure if I am picturing it wrong though? 🙁many thanks

channelletterbender.com
This is it, download the video for the preview of how it works… but I saw one on eBay America… with currency conversion it is £70K!
That’s a shed load of Channel letters to make it worthwhile!

Ah, i see.. in the paper industry they call that blind embossing… although I havent comes across it in our industry really… appart from brail methods that are now available.

sounds like a embossing or pressing type machine is what you need. Sorry cant recommend exact machine you you as cant remember exactly what you call the machine.

Hi,
thanks for that! Thats pointing me in some direction at least! 🙂
I have had no idea what the machines are called, let alone a make, so have just been searching the net typing in "metal sign press" and "metal sign machine" etc but to no avail. At least now I can try another field, so many thanks for that 🙂Is this kind of machine something that is associated with the paper industry? I didnt realise that and just assumed sign writing companies etc 🙁
If anybody could give me a pointer as to a machine make, it would be really helpful.
many thanks for your help, its really appreciated.Liz 😀

Search for plate stamping and similar; plate stamping machine, hot plate stamping… Probably more than you’re after if you’re asking the question.
You could also look at hydraulic presses and some custom tooled letters.
Then you’ll have to figure out how you’re going to print them.
Generally the people doing this are doing it in a big way. There’s a firm down the street form me that exports all over North America and into Europe. The people on the floor there are not making the big bucks and the firm has to compete with the third world and work projects in institutions.
Have fun.

Are these the type you are looking for
signsofthetimes.co.uk
I think some of them are cast.

Hi, thanks for your replies!
Jim, yes that is something I am after, but not cast signs. I was searching again last night and had a little breakthrough! I have found this:
The only problem is, they are in France! I have emailed them, and had a response so will see how it goes. I bet donkeys years ago they had machines like this in a lot of garages, for the old-type cars and numberplates. The only problem I have now also is getting the correct letter font etc 🙁
Thanks again
Liz
