  • Mesh Banner – hemming and eyeletting

Posted by Peter Wynne on January 7, 2016 at 12:12 pm

We’ve only ever made PVC outdoor banners, but have just taken an order for a mesh banner.

Ordered the stock which has arrived, artwork is being prepared as we speak, but I was just wondering…

Can I still use banner tape to hem mesh material? And normally we place the eyelets just off the hem when using PVC outdoor banner material (as they don’t seem to be able to go through taped and folded 510gsm banner stock!), but do I need to be eyeletting THROUGH the hem with the mesh material? What does everyone else do?

    Regards,

    Pete.

    Hi Peter.

I have this exact question. How did it go hemming and eyeletting your mesh?

With my tool, eyelets and double sided tape, I can easy go trough everything and make a solid eyelet. I haven’t done it on mesh. Banner folded with double sided tape + eyelets, worked for years for me.

Let me know if double sided tape works for mesh too. Other members experiences welcomed.

    Cheers.

Never found the hemming tape much use on mesh banner, as there’s not much material for it stick too. Even with a roller and heat gun it’s not 100%

There’s a glass fibre re-enforced tape, where you don’t fold it over, which works OK, but not as good as a welded hem IMHO.

    Thanks David.

Andy, I didn’t understand well. Is Solvoprint PVC the name for the mesh? What is the name of the tape are you using?

    Cheers

Solvoprint PVC is the name of the mesh which i buy from Neschen, the tape i buy from Antalis, which is called Orabond (item No: 96370, 50mm x 50m) which has an excellent resistance to uv light, solvents and plasticiser. 160c long term temperature resistance…..
