Could you not use a 5 year polymeric on the rear unit, if it is flat.

There would be differences in colour, but as there’s a gap between the unit and cab it might no be so noticible?

I have thought about using a polymeric i should of said they want a 7 year vinyl at least as they lease these out on a 7 year basis,

im also wondering if my VS will contour cut the curve on the side panels or if im better doing it by hand

they want 7 year ‘guarantee’ did you mention client that ink have durability UP TO 5 years…?

I have done several trucks and use an 1st quality monomeric vinyl…

If your looking at digital print then you are pushing it with 7 years Robert no matter what vinyl & ink combination you use, not saying you won’t get 7 years as I have seen jobs where it did last this long if not longer but I wouldn’t like to offer any sort of warranty on it especially with the volume of vehicles your talking about.

Solid vinyl then yes a cast or good quality polymeric would do the job, something like 551 would be ok I would have thought. This sort of thing is more up Robert L’s street, no doubt he will post latter.

Sorry to disagree Tim but monomeric & quality are two words that don’t go together :lol1: :lol1: I wouldn’t even think about putting something like that on 70 to 90 trucks, would never be able to sleep at night.

Hi Martin,

So far the design will mostly be like the first picture so it pretty much has to be digital print,

He has specified that it needs to last 7 years and ive told him my concerns, he pretty much told me as long as it doesn’t drop off he doesn’t mind it starting to fade, I haven’t given him any warranty on it as yet and will probably only give him the 3 year warranty that 3M give.

I’m happy with the price i have given him and just wondered if there was a cheaper/better alternative, obviously if there is an alternative vinyl but it takes twice as long to fit then it wont be an option.

I’m getting closer to getting the artwork signed of and as soon as i do i will post another picture

We’ve done a few of these so a couple of points.
The design, have you seen one ‘in the flesh’? I’d really recommend looking, the ‘step’ on the bottom of the body is surprisingly deep. (See pics) We printed from the clients supplied design. If you lined the top of the image as his visual it wouldn’t stretch to cover the bottom. Line up with the bottom (our solution) it didn’t reach far enough up the body.
Fitting not too difficult, but there are quite a few controls/pipes and safety stickers they never show you on the outlines which take time! The welds on the ones we did were quite large and took time to mold and were a bugger for trapping air pockets. Recess on the cab is deep and some kind of plastic, 1st couple popped straight back out so we roughed up the surface to give a better key. Used MD7.
