Some of you may remember this job from a couple of years ago, they are opening a second nursery in town, the first one was in a village about 5 miles away, well they are due to open in a couple of weeks, they actually took notice of me when I said it pays to have your signs up a couple of weeks before you open.
As usual exterior mdf with a mixture of paint, vynil and gold leaf, the letters on the main sign is had cut 18mm foamex painted gold and face gilded with 23k gold leaf.
The smaller signs are for posts at the front of the premises, going to fit clear anti-graffiti film because theres a council estate round the corner, known around here as Faluja on the Fens

steve, silly beginners question, but how are these painted? Do you use certain types of paint? Presume there done with an airbrush in parts so do you need a spray booth?

just interested really as i think its a really good combination of materials!
    look brilliant!!

Any good quality branded exterior grade gloss and primer i.e. Crown, Dulux etc. none of this crap from Wilkos, one coat primer/undercoat front and rear then 2 coats gloss front and rear, these boards were brush painted not sprayed, although the edges were sprayed black with a small hvlp gun and no I don’t have a spray booth and I use a quality 3M face mask.[/u]

yeah a little, don’t ask me how much just trial and error, I do let the brush painted coat go off for 10 or 20 minutes as if I’ve found that wet on wet I don’t get as good a blend.

I thought these looked good the first time around, but knowing just how much prep work you put in to achieve this sort of quality, I’m even more impressed…………. Brilliant work Steve

How do you go about this gilding ?, or do you know of any demo’s on the net ?…………. any help you can give, as I want to have a go at this sometime.

beautiful work steve.. really smart signs mate..
love the top one most.. the bottom is equally as good but kinda find the lower text a little conjested.
i like the blending effect coming in from the sides.

thanks for taking the time to show us you work mate… 😉

Ditto what Rob says. The black fade really makes it pop (as Jill would say). I will be nicking that idea in the near future.

Thanks folks, Rob see the bit on the sign where it says OFSTED registered, man you would not believe the crap they send out even regulations of the size of text stating that they are registered, names of owners, name of principal :roll:as an aside they guy next door objected to the planning on the grounds of noise so poor old Jarrod had to fit an accoustic barrier (posh name for a wooden fence 300mm wide and 50 metres long, 10 grand for a garden fence I kid you not.) I even had to send a risk assesment for the signs 🙄 so it was a bit of a toss-up between doing the Ofsted regs. planning regs, making the sign look right (most important bit from my point of view)
Lee sent you a pm with me number if you want a chat or any info 😉
