  • matching vinyl help needed please?

Posted by Adrian Neill on 13 January 2006 at 08:04

    HI all !!

Am having to match some vinyl supplied by someone else.
The customer who needs the work doing has been given a code by the original installer.

The viny is silver coloured, and looks quite matt.
The code they have been given is : 3M Scotchcal 9006.

Does anyone on here recognise this ?
We have spoken to to a few 3M vinyl suppliers, but are having difficulty tracking this vinyl down, and whether it even exists ??

    Cheers for any help !!

I bet that the specification originated on the continent, maybe in Germany. It’s more than a coincidence that 9006 is the RAL reference for a silver colour. The original installer probably used this to indicate that the vinyl was Scotchcal in silver, rather than use the 3M code number (220-120 available from Spandex).

Here is a useful German site (Spandex in Germany) that gives you some (close) matches to the RAL system in 3M, Avery, Oracal etc.
    http://www.brunner-folien.de/f-folien.htm and then klick”Nach RAL”
    Hope this help.

I’ve got some 3M swatches here and that code doesn’t match anything. Have you tried Spandex?

Ive just done a search on google and found this product:
3M Scotchcal striping tape, light Charcoal Metallic ID code 75-3466-9006-0
This may be something to do with what you are looking for.

You could try Sydney Beaumont (Leeds) 0113 2458729 they have a 5 /7 year silver vinyl which is nearer matt than gloss. The reference number is 9794 which has a matching Ral number of 9006.

    Cheers

I think you’ll find the 9006 reference is on the 3M brochure style colour samples, not the swatch booklet.

I have not got one here at home, but the brochure has 4 reference numbers for each colour.

    sorry can’t be more help
