match needed for Avery passion blue 969SC to oracal vinyl?
Posted by Stuart Whitehouse on 13 May 2008 at 08:54Hi all
I’ve been given a colour reference off a customer – Avery passion blue 969SC. Can someone please match me this as near as possible over to oracle vinyl as I don’t have any avery swatches and don’t deal with any Avery distributors.
many thanks

Sorry, I don’t understand this.
If your customer is specifying Avery 969, why would you consider using anything else?

for cost really. its only to floodcoat a dibond sign to match a tanker they’ve already had done, so as long as its the same colour then it does the job. for 1230 wide it would be about £20 per metre more in avery for the quantity I need when oracal 751 would be more than adequate for the job. I’ll buy avery if I have to but i’d prefer to make another £100…………

Where I’m coming from is that my customers specify a material, or I do on their behalf, and we stick with it through thick and thin in the interest of corporate identity. What often happens then is that some clown body repairer thinks he can make a few quid extra profit by using an alternative. It invariably results in failure, not matching, or some other problem, and we then have to put it right. Fair enough, we charge for the rectification, but it is annoying to have to spend time on something that was completely avoidable.
Twice in the last two weeks we have gone out to rectify similar things. Both times the cost was astronomical. A £150 job, if it had been done properly, turned into a £450 rectification because of our travelling costs. Both times the repairer had to pay our invoices if they wanted any more work from that insurance company. They weren’t happy, but had little alternative.
In your case, matching a vehicle to a sign, you’ll probably be alright, but try to get the match as close as you can or it may come back to haunt you.
One thought though. Why Oracal? You’re more likely to get a good match by using a cheaper material from the same manufacturer. I’d look first at Avery 700.

yeah I totally see your point and agree with you, I wouldn’t compromise the job for the sake of cost but my thoughts were if my normal vinyl would do the job then all the better.
I’ve ended up ordering the avery 900 series as I couldn’t find a close enough match, I took your advice and tried the lower series but to no avail – I’d rather pay the extra and have a good night sleep……..
thanks for your help

Stuart,
Just had Robert Horne Northampton on the phone.
They have got 27 metres of 375mm sprocketed 969 Passion blue they want to get rid of. They are asking 50p per metre.
If interested, call Jolene on 01604 673434.
