  • making a straight edge parallel to horizontal or vertical

    can this be done?

say you draw an object, then want to make one of the straight edges either horizontal or vertical.
just to clarify it’s drawings from photographs i do regularly, and when i draw them i usually want one of the edges to be true vertical.
i know shift would give me a true edge when drawing, and ctrl will make rotate move in specified increments, but the rotate+ctrl is invariably out!

at the moment i am moving the centre point to one of the nodes on the end of the straight edge i want to use, placing that on a guideline, and then rotating it until they line up – by eye.
it’s not perfect, and is a little hit and miss – ie you can get very close, but not quite there.

there may not be a method, but it’d help if there was?

    thanks

In CorelDraw after rotating the way you suggest to best approximate its possible to select the 2 nodes that you want aligned and use the "align nodes" tool to make exactly vertical or horizontal.

I realise this changes the shape slightly but if your rotation was fairly accurate in the first place its hardly noticeable.
