  • Major Silicone cleaning problem prior to wrapping new vans

Posted by Daryl Baker on January 29, 2015 at 9:35 am

    Hi All

We seem to be having major problems cleaning vans prior to wrapping.
No matter what we use (Soap and water>Tar and Glue remover>Solvent cleaner>IPA) you can’t get rid of the silicone!?
We have a fleet of new yellow Renault master vans plus two Ford Transit customs that seem to have some kind of paint cleaning protection.
This is causing problems with the wrap popping out the recesses instantly!!!
Has anyone else been having the same problem? Is this a new additive in paint?
We’ve not had any issues with older vans :banghead:

    Please help!

    Regards
    Daryl

Sounds like the paint work might of been treat with nanotech style polish. If the surface is made wet, does the water ‘bead’ as normal or run straight off – if it runs straight off, its this type of polish, now the bad news: is its acid, alkali, water & alcohol resistant ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I have a customer that uses it for boats, but never tried applying graphics to it.

Sorry can’t help with removal of this polish, you’d need to consult the manufacturer for advice ๐Ÿ˜•

There different manufacturers so there is a good chance any sort of treatment has been carried out post manufacturer, have you spoken to the company your carrying out the work for to see if they have had any treatment applied.

What make and series of vinyl are you using to wrap this?

(as this is your first post, an introduction post in "say hello" would be good, please also consider a profile picture)

    Hi Robert

Sorry for not introducing ourselves. We are Nick and Daryl f.
We have taken over the business back in Oct 2013 as an on going concern from my ex MD of 18 years.

We wrap most things with Ritrama 50ยต white cast digital print film with corresponding laminate RiJet 30 Flexilam.

We know this holds in as we’ve used it on a Toyota Hiace van which has nasty panel returns!

We are at a loss with this wax / cleaning protection?

    Thanks
    Daryl

We use Autoglym Multiwash TFR on new vehicles.

    quote :

    AUTOGLYM POWERMAX III 5LT

Autoglym PowerMax 3 is a cleaner designed for copolymer coating (a coating applied to new vehicles to help keep clean but inhibit vinyls adhering to them) removal off new vehicles like the Mercedes Vito vans to ensure perfect surface preparation for vehicle wrapping. It comes in 5LT bottles.

Not sure where you can get it in the UK.

Do a search for copolymer remover, there are a few on the market.

One of my suppliers have sourced this direct from the manufacturers and will post details later today and costs
