Driven by the power of thought…. Well done… Luv that..
Good mags too
-
what an idiot i am !! i just realised as i was finishing a job on site earlier, that my tag line is "driven by the power of imagination" !!! oh wekk, mags in the workshop now for a quick overhaul !!
that’ll teach me to do 5 jobs at once at that time of night !
-
Hugh, how can you forget your own Tag line? Not actually sure which one I prefere but I thought the imagination tag line was Honda’s?
As for the mags, just one quick comment, not sure if I like the text on your customers mags being Left justified on one side and centre justified on the other, just my opinion but might have looked better if the stuff to the right had been right justified.
-
i did suggest that to the customer martin, but after many many emails etc, this was what he wanted ! the first enquiry for this job was over a year ago while i was doing a builder van at their development !
re the tag line, i think honda’s is something to do with dreams isn’t it ?
just googled the phrase and only 6 come up, none for honda !
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe … tnG=Searchit came about for me, by recalling an old friends race car "astral projection", he had "powered by thought" written on the sides, i played around with that until i came up with ‘driven by the power of imagination’, i think i can honestly say that i’d never heard the phrase before then !
-
may aswell be picky..lol
wheres the dot on the moby number gone?
also the spacing there looks diff than the land line dots.agree with Martin about the text on the right.
but otherwise lubbly jubbly.
-
Hugh, you could be right about Honda, it’s just that your Tag sounded familiar, maybe it’s just me ( it normally is)
Tim you could be right about the spacing, looks about a smartie out to me :lol1:

buggger ! lost a black outline on the truck too, god knows where that went. have to pop in and refit the o in mob when i pass by, will sort them out too,
in hindsight, it’d be better to just remove the dots !
Martin, the two lines of number were never meant to be lined up as such, as the were differing lengths i chose to keep it more symmetrical and centre them both, though i should noticed the space missing tween the dots and the first number,
Honda is "the power of dreams"
note to self….. shut the workshop door at 5pm and go home, do not work when knackered, do not work on more than two jobs at once ! 😕
-
Hugh, I’m just pulling your leg, after Rich’s post about the web designer and his spacing being about a mars bar out. I read Tims post about the spacing and to be honest I didn’t even look but I knew it wouldn’t be as far out as a mars bar :lol1:
-
no probs martin, glad you pointed it out, i guess these things happen when ya try and do too much at once !
look at the honda website http://www.honda.co.uk/ i decided to have a click on a thing or two when looking to see what their tag line was, click on the robot, it’s a pretty cool site, possibly the best designed i’ve seen !
-
Hugh,
On the mag to go on the rear, I would move the "or call" a bit lower, and centre it between the two g’s of dragonsigns. As it is now it seems off-centre and a bit apologetic for showing up!! Maybe make it slightly bigger? -
well spotter Gert 🙂
i had noticed it when i made them, i put the reflective on last, and being in a hurry i just made sure it was level to the bottom and slapped it on, with no thought for the spacing,
i’ve been having a few stern words with myself today, that’s for sure,
Hugh

I hope you didn’t stand for any talking back 😀
Nice mags, who was the supplier please?
-
i just buy the mag on a roll, about 620 wide, buy it by the metre, good stuff is about £7 per mtr up, cut it with a stanley knife and round the ends using a scalpel (carefully), prety easy stuff to use. all here were flood coated, i hate white mags !!
-
sorry hugh, didn’t ask properly.
Who did you buy the roll of mag from please? -
oh, sorry !! i got it through sign trade supplies, based in maidstone, some of their prices are a bit over average, bu the mag the sell is good, bit less than £7 a mtr at the mo, not sure what delivery would cost, i only order it in to top up an order to 150+ and save the postage !
-
Thanks hugh, I asked because I get mine from victory and I wondered if there was any differences.
I can check it out now.
thanks -
Actually if you speak to the people who make magnetic material they will tell you that you shouldn’t floodcoat it, don’t know the reasons why but because I was told that I always just buy plain magnetic material and then apply whatever backing colour I need.
-
i dunno why martin, or should i say… i can’t see a reason why not, the blue mags were flood coated about a year ago, but weren’t used much, so i only replaced the lettering, i did notice that the white and the blue flood had shrunk about 1mm all around, same as on some non flooded ones a customer wanted re-doing a few weeks back, so flood or not, the top coat shrinks, i wonder what their reasoning is.
Hugh
-
Hugh, it was a few years ago and to be honest I can’t remember if they gave me a reason or not, it’s just as easy to buy it in plain and colour it what ever colour I need which I have been doing ever since I was told.
-
i never knew it was available in plain ! only ever seen white.
-
quote Hugh Potter:i never knew it was available in plain ! only ever seen white.
I used to buy plain (brown) all the time, but my wholesalers don’t import it into oz anymore, apart from the fridge magnet stuff. Its usually cheaper too. I do a lot of digital stuff, so I have to cover the whole mag anyway… seems pointless to buy white when I’m going to cover it all anyway.
Martin, I recall the earlier mags were always having issues with something or other. But mags these days do not have these issues anymore. Not the stuff I buy anyway.
-
It’s to do with expansion/contraction at different rates I think? This makes all the usual magnetic problems worse.
-
Shane, you could be right, I am fairly new to the sign business so when one of the manufacturers told me this I don’t think I questioned it just bought plain material from then on, like you say a lot of them are covered either with a print or flooded a different colour so like you I don’t see the point in buying it in white.
-
Done a mag last year and the customer has just rung to say that it has stuck to the vehicle, just as well I gave him a maintenance sheet so he had no come back. The mag was bought from Anchor Magnetics by the way.
Peter
-
Doesn’t matter which company you buy your magnetic from Peter, its all the same stuff, if the customer doesn’t take notice of the care instructions and remove them and clean them regularly then they only have themselves to blame
-
The magnetic is not all the same. The coated and uncoated versions are different (on the rear not the face) and there is also a range of weights.
Mags melting onto vehicles is a nightmare, but if they just weight for it all to cool down it should make life easier. Unless they really go at it they should only damage the panel and not the vehicle!

You should look for a mag with a glossy back. We had several suppliers withdraw mag here a year or so back.. because they were sticking to cars whether they, the client, maintained them or not.
The brown v colored mag (we have yellow here too) is a different type. The non coated is way more flexible.
I prefer the .9mm Japanese mag, but at 1 metre wide, it gets a bit expensive here, but it is really good mag. Problem is, people are so used to buying ‘cheap’ mag signs, no one is keen to pay for the better stuff at a higher price 🙁
-
Sorry Gavin I will rephrase my post so as not to confuse people. All magnetic sheeting is manufactured using the same process, regardless of material thickness or whether it is back coated or not if left on a vehicle for long periods of time there is a risk of the material bonding to the side of the vehicle, heat and humidity will speed up this process.
Coating helps but will not prevent this happening.
The point I was trying to make is that all magnetics should be accompanied by a care sheet explaining how to look after them, Peter gave the customer a sheet but the customer chose to ignore the advice they had been given. -
does anyone have a care sheet they’d be prepared to share ? i’m sure i had one, which i have used in the past, but it’s been so long since my last mags, that it didn’t cross my mind to include one (though i verbally recommended removing them and cleaning weekly, and not putting back on until dry), just spent 5 mins looking for it, no sign of !
-
I’m not sure about the manufacture, but from experience different materials act in different ways. Some are more likely to curl than others and so on, even if following the instructions. I think the heat is the only issue that makes them stick and even if the customer follows the instructions there is nothing on there that mentions this (that’s from memory as I haven’t checked)

Hugh if you find it could you please let me have a copy?
Bit worried about the ‘sticking’ of mags. Never knew this was a problem – done quite a few recently should I warn my clients? 😮
Cheers. Nick.
