Has any one any ideas what material is used to make magnetic dry wipe marker boards and where I can source it? I have had an enquiry to make several rigid signs that magnetic rubber numbers will "stick" to. The sizes of the signs vary from 3645x300mm (to be supplied in 2 sections) to 1190x50mm.

David, try doing a search on the boards. It has been talked about quite a bit in the past so you may get a quicker answer that way. There are a number of ways this can be done. Hexis used to do some materials suitable but not sure if they still do.

there’s a clear film that can be applied over foamex or whatever to make it drywipe …… I’ve used it before. Can’t remember the name of it but if it comes back to me I’ll let you know. 🙂

    Thanks for all your replies.

Martin, I have a searched the boards and there is a product called Plasticol mentioned which is available from roofing companies. I have a contact at a local roofing company who should be able to help me with a sample.

Marcella, thanks for your suggestion, but I am needing something ferrous that magnetics with stick to.

Peter, I have spoken to Bisbell about this product and there is couple of problems, the material is only available at 620mm wide and it also isn’t rigid enough for a large sign. Laminating onto some foamex could be an option, but I was hoping to source a ready made material.

David, not sure you will find a ready made material, I know I couldn’t when I use to make a lot of these type boards but that was a few years ago. The bisbell stuff looks interesting, wasn’t about when I was doing them but it should be easy to apply it to a board.
The other thing I have done in the past is to buy ready made magnetic dry wipe boards, remove the frame, cut them to size and then refit the original frame or manufacture a new one depending on what the customer wanted.

Magnets onto dry wipe? Can’t you just stick dry wipe vinyl onto steel?

(Don’t use stainless steel, of course.)
