  • Looking to move into printing – advice needed on equipment?

Posted by Stephen Moffatt on 15 September 2015 at 16:10

    Hi guys,

I have been cutting vinyl for a few years now and wanting to move into printing, Just not sure where to start!

We are wanting to do more vehicle livery.. so I think we would also need a laminator? Also not wanting a huge machine just something that will get us started and last a few years.

What is every bodies suggestions on the equipment we need?

Ideally if we can get a good 2nd user machine we will be happy but also willing to go a finance route on a new machine if needed.

    Thanks in advance

You might also consider HP Latex printers, their inks are well suited to vehicle graphics.

    Hi Stephen,

Great to hear you’re looking at branching out!

There are a lot of options out there for you. My recommendation based on you being new to printing and wanting something to get you started, would be a refurbished print and cut machine along with an equivalent laminator, especially if you are producing vehicle livery graphics. This will be a relatively low upfront investment, but won’t restrict you on other applications you may come across.

In my personal opinion, the Roland print and cut machines are really easy to use, require no ventilation and are a very reliable machine. You can often find a laminator bundle with something like this, people often trade both in when they are looking for an upgrade to a larger size.

I hope that helps, with the right equipment and right training – you will be up and running in no time.

Good luck with the research, happy to help if I can,

    Chris.
