liquid laminate – recommendations please?
Posted by mark walker on 15 September 2005 at 15:59Hi all, can anyone recommend a liquid laminate and supplier, also what experiences have people had thus far. Asking because it will be easier and asve money compared to rolled alminate for short runs or small one off prints,
Cheers , Mark

There are liquid laminates CLEARJET & CLEARSHIELD one is solvent the other water based. Comes in matt, semi gloss and gloss.
http://www.alumaframe.com are UK distributors, they provide a free sample pot .
I have one but not tried it out as yet.
Their main business is in aluminium signage frames which may be of interest.
Cheers

i used to use frog juice, but even then i dropped that and went for clear vinyl.
if its just short run stickers and small prints then yeh, i think frog juice is pretty repuatble, but there are others.
i could be wrong, but i think rodney or someone has told me about issues on liquid lams… cracking or reacting to certain inks… 😕not sure… sorry, im sure someone else will help you better than i have 😳

quote Robert Lambie:went for clear vinyl.
i use that too…but only use the frog juice for specific customers who actually ask for a sign a (layered vinyl one) to be weather proof it gives a really nice acrylicy..look to it 😀

Thanks for all your input people, ive had a terrible time with my laminator, sometimes it all works fine and others ( mainly with a large print thats cost a fortune) it wrinkles everything and just does my head in! :headbang2:
I’m going to try using it with a carrier board lined with release paper and cut lengths of vinyl rather than using th e vinyl in the mounted rollers. Has anyone been able to find out about the machine that shane has in oz ?(hi shane!) that sounded great but I havent seen anything here yet.
cheers, Mark. -
yeh, i know of a source for them mate, they aregoing to be supplying the uksg soon too… so if you want me to ask them to call you i can.
dont want to give too much away just now on the open forums 😉what sorta laminator have you got…

whats the problems you are having with the laminator, i have a Xativa which i believe use to be emseal and have no problems. what laminats are you using etcKev

iya Kev, using metamark laminate. sometimes it works, others not, wrimkles and all that. more than that its hard to describe really – a bit hit and miss! has yours never screwed up a print?
-
like you say mate, its better to see then advise. as i could be way out…
everyone gets the odd bad laminate and waste a print. if working on your own doing it i guess it could be tricky to learn mate…
it was andrew and i. messing around with ours for a bit before we got the hang. now we can both do it pretty comfortably on our own upto 65inches wide by ??? pitty your not round the corner or ide pop round and see if i can lend a hand… 😕 nothing worse buying good kit and hitting snags 👿 -
i buy my liquid from graphitype (sp)
like metioned in the other thread i had problems with a roller. Spray from a can was fine but worked out dear.
I tried a painters pad, as mentioned in the other thread and that worked fine. Big jam jar, leave the pad in the liquid, top screwed on. Not 100% perfect but close enought.
It takes seconds to cover a graphic, no need to reload back in the machine.
horses for courses, it depends upon the job, but for small decals its the way to go.
I leave printes 24hrs before covering with lam liquid.

mate, before I got my ezy taper, I used Graphicoat by Techink. It is a gloss or a satin but has a hardener, so small runs can be expensive if you mix too much.
Excellent stuff tho, really flexible, and did not crack on any banners I did after priting with ecosol ink.
My ezy taper tho is really good, so no longer need the liquid stuff.
They sold 40 ezy tapers at the recent 3 day sydney sign show. Proving really popular here because of the lack of drama in doing really small and large jobs.
I am sure Rob could approach the UK supplier on behalf of UKSB buying group to get you a decent buy price….
