  • Lightboxes-what should I consider when quoting?

    Hi veryone!

I have had an enquiry for 2 lightboxes, front faced cut vinyl, each 12 feet by 2 feet.
Can you guys tell me what I need to know when putting together a price for these? I haven’t had to do any before, don’t want to short-change me or the customer!

    Thanks
    Lorraine

Just about to get some from Alutrade.

5mm opal panels and a good even light spread. Are you getting a sparky to wire them in??

    Hi Graeme

Alutrade were a good price when I asked. I will get an electrician in if the customer needs it-at the moment it’s just a quote to supply & install-I don’t even know what his business is!
Do you legally need a qualified electrician?

No you need a competent electrician, however competence can be proven easily through qualifications !!!. Cabling should go back to a fused spur and if exposed externally should also be mechanically protected.

Would someone kindly suggest what % they would put on top of the trade price for lightboxes?
I really have no idea of what someone would expect to pay/what the realistic profit margin should be! (Please remember that I have never had to quote for boxes before….)

I can work out my own price for adding graphics and installation, but I am fed up with thinking ‘ouch’ when I run a quote up, only to reduce it because I feel the price is too high-and then find it’s not enough!

    Sorry to ramble on…. 🙄 😳

Ive been adding on 20-25% to cover my running around on the price of the box. I feel cheeky adding too much to something that has been built by a 3rd party unless the supplier has a suggested customer price.

If i buy it in, i have had to design it, recommend their product, size it, spec-it, install-it, wait for payment, therefore i think i’ve done as much as the supplier hence 100%, nothing cheeky about it,

Graeme you only get one chance at it, being nice means nothing to the bank manager.

got to agree with Ian, take more if you can get it…

we DONT wire into anything… we fit around 6-10m of cable into the box in-house. when we arrive on site we install the box. drill a hole into the building in the area they want it. feed the cable inside the shop and fit a plug on the end. put an extension cable up to the plug and turn it on to show the shop owner it working. then cut the plug off and leave.

we then tell them to organise getting the cable wired into their mains by an approved electrician.
yes in some cases we arrange for the electrician but tell the shop owner it would be cheaper for them to organise this and 9/10 times they will.
just remember, if ever there is a fire and theres a chance it was down to the lightbox they are coming back for you! its not worth it…

Good point, prices going up :lol1: :lol1:

Im not one to undercut just to get a job, Id rather price right and knowingly drop quality to bring a price down to an agreed level.
