  • Lightbox or back-lit lettering, or something else completely

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 23 August 2005 at 14:30

    Again I am struggling. A customer has requested a light box, 24″h x 100″long x 12″ deep, with one side, 12″w x 24″ h also lit.

His Chinese restaurant/takeaway is situated on a one-way street, with another chinese takeaway immediately to his left, (next door), and another 3 shops down. God knows what the Council were doing when they allowed PP for the 2 new ones next to each other…..

However. Customer needs something different, next door has a Dibond fascia and window graphics, which is bright and fairly eye-catching, so I need to come up with something extra-special.
As I havent done lightboxes or stand-off lettering before, I am at a bit of a loss, wondered if any of you more experienced folks can give me some pointers?????

Start with your design ideas first then think about what to raise off / illuminate. Post your design here and i’m sure that others will give their opinion.

Folded aluminium fascia with fret cut text and logo backed up with acrylic and then mounted over a back box with internal illumination. You could add a projecting sign or even place built up st/st or painted lettering onto the acrylic which will give you a lit area around the perimeter of the letters and logo.

well, we built a dibond lightbox once, worked out quite well and it was rigid enough

Mayger (Kev) Thanks, I have just had the customer in,and have come up with this…..which he likes, although I have got the lettering in vinyl at the mo.

Simplex That is a cracking idea, only problem is, that there is a lot of text, possibly too much, do you think? Assuming I can upload the design for you to see, of course….

Carrie, thanks. Will have a go later when I have a minute (more like an hour). Spending far too much time on here, not enough working! (:)
