  • LED myself or not?

Posted by David Hammond on 7 June 2016 at 17:10

We don’t manufacture built up letters, or trays in house due to the fact we don’t have a CNC in house.

We have in the past had the entire job produced by a trade supplier, just wondering if anyone has the signs manufactured and installs the LED’s themselves?

Seem’s straight forward enough to do, but is it really worth the effort, and is the cost saving significant?

    Hi David

It all depends on what your trade supplier is charging you for LEDs and transformers. Let’s be fair, they will be making a small markup on supplying these plus manufacturing so you could find that you may save £50-£100 per job.

By that figure I’m taking a guess at 100x LEDs n they make £20 markup, £40 for manufacturing on top of the cutting and £5 on top of the transformers BUT these all depend on what your supplier is charging.

Don’t forget what you can make in that our of manufacturing though if your have more than enough work coming through the door it might not be justified and leave your trade supplier to do it.

To be completely honest if you have the space and time I would install myself.

But it all depends on if it would save you enough money to justify you doing it yourself.

It’s worth it for me, but that’s me. For you maybe a few hours could be spent doing something more profitable ;).
