Layered Vinyl on Backing
We’ve quoted on a job to supply 20x 4colour stickers using cut vinyl (very basic design)
Usually we would layer these up on the vehicle when fitting, but as it’s supply only we need to supply these layered up on the release liner.
What’s the best way to do lay the layers down, and then remove the application tape from the vinyl without it lifting again from the backing paper?
I’ve had limited success doing this!

Depending on the intricacy of the design you could layer them wet with no application tape.
The customer will get some nice air ridges when fitting them though. -

Totally agree about pre-layering creating air ridges…crappy end result.

I’d sub them out to someone with a printer.
Pre-layering is going to cause bubbles or difficulty removing the backing.

Like you david ive had limited success with this,wet layering is not a option ive tryed that!!
TBH that utube vid method works well but it would need to be small size like in the video.just wondered why you priced/agreed/doing it in cut vinyl??as i think you do print inhouse?just wondered 🙂 -
Yes we print in house. However in the future we will be signing up the remainder of their fleet, and would prefer to do use cut vinyl to get an accurate colour match.
There’s very little being layered, more 3 colours on one decal.
Thankfully they’re 610x170mm will watch the vid when I get on work.

I’d be wary of layering wet as the release liner may delaminate and stick to the adhesive on the lettering.

After watching the youtube video above, I think I’ve sussed out how to do it.
I cut the bottom layer with a big enough border to accommodate the other layers, so will app tape the top layer up leaving enough transfer tape for the other elements, and build it up.
It’s not a very complex design so shouldn’t take too long.
